Lots of gear updates. I've graduated to a new AxeFX FM9, which I'm getting used to. I decided that for all the years I had the AxeFXIIXL+, I never REALLY dug deep into what it could do, so I signed up for a "master class" with Cooper Carter, the guy who engineered Syn's Cab Pack and also helped him translate his amp tones to AxeFX tones. It's wildly eye-opening, and I still have a long way to go.
I also have a glorious Ernie Ball Music Man JP-15 on the Fedex truck from Sweetwater. It's in the Purple Nebula finish, and I'm very excited to plug that in, and also learn how to dial in an acoustic tone with it, since it has a piezo pickup built in alongside the magnetic pickups.
I will be going live on SynTV with both in the next couple weeks - announcement to follow!
Rest of the year shaping up nicely. Got the Deathbats gathering in HB on Halloween weekend, then Trivium with BTBAM a week later, and then the Trinity of Terror (INK, BVB, Motionless in White and Atreyu) first week of December. Booyah!
Just got my first set of Airpods Pro, and I got the brand new "2" version that just came out today. I'd already decided Exist would be the first thing I listened to, and holy shit, it's like hearing it for the first time.

One of the first live sessions I’ll do on SynTV will be how to change strings on a Floyd Rose guitar. That seems to be a big one for a lot of people.
With the word yesterday that troubled Cinderella guitarist Jeff LaBar passed away at 58, it seems a good time to point to their best album. While the debut, "Night Songs," was a hair metal album with blues-rock overtones, the follow-up and MUCH better album, "Long Cold Winter," is one hell of a blues-rock album with occasional hair-metal overtones. From the opening acoustic slide riffs of Bad Seamstress Blues, it's a different kind of album for the era, and as such it's held up a LOT better. Give it a listen and raise a glass for Jeff!

On CNN yesterday, talking about the "ring of fire" eclipse seen in the early morning hours yesterday, Neil deGrasse Tyson referred to it as "a cosmic ballet choreographed by the forces of gravity." Sound familiar? (as seen on the Colbert Late show replay)
I'll be gone for the next week. Wife & I - vaxxed & loaded - are going to Turks & Caicos for an anniversary trip. We're leaving the kids (1st time in 9 years & only the 3rd time in 21 years together). I won't have cell coverage, & I don't know how the Wifi will be, but aside from posting pics n stuff, I don't expect to be on my phone much. I'm excited for this, because it feels like MY first vacation as an adult - my fellow olds know that vacation means constantly being aware of how much $$ you have, what's worth doing, what you can't afford, etc. Well, we're going to Beaches, which is all-inclusive. I won't have to think about it, which is FUCKING GLORIOUS & why it feels like a vacation for ME TOO! Stay safe play hard & be awesome, you ragtag box of awesome motherfuckers! See you Sunday!

I changed the name of my YouTube channel. "Cooking with Captain Ed" lacks punch and could be confusing. I took Jak's other part of her name for me and just changed the spelling of my last name, so it's "Captain Ed Scythe." Years ago, one of my bands actually wanted to call our band "Scythe" and have me use that spelling as a stage name. Decades later, eh, why the fuck not, right?
One of the guys in my old band posted this today. It's from, I think, March of 1996. I'm on the right side of the screen (stage left) with the red Ibanez. It was a good gig.
Thirty years ago, a good friend begged me to paint the front of his brand new Marshall 4x12 cabinet. He still has it and still plays it, and now my artistry has come full circle to @Syn Gates with the amp-naming contest header. I had no idea how far ahead of his time Pete would become.
