    Songs to learn

@jak I love the challenge! Life is a little crazy now so it will be a few days before I can post a reply but I will do it.

    Jak, what is your challenge?

    Songs to learn

What songs are your favorite to play? What songs are you currently working on? What songs helped you with a particular technique? I am kinda stuck in a rut and looking for new and interesting things to play (or just some cool riffs). I appreciate any suggestions. All ideas are welcome.

    Improvising over All Of Me

I am not a jazz expert and there is no right way to improvise over this but I can give you my 2 cents. The first 2 bars are in C major so any good old C major scale or arpeggio will work. In bar 3 it moves to E dominant 7 chord so you can use an E mixolydian scale. The color notes to focus on...

    Anyone fans of the Beatles

I love the Beatles! I went through a period where that was all I listened to. They have so much timeless music. Papa Gates story about recording at Abbey Road is amazing! I would be like a kid in a candy store.

    Physics of a guitar

I would be interested. Would it focus more on the magnetic field and how the electronics work or on vibrations of the string and the logarithmic scale that determines the pitch?

What are you currently listening to?

The new Between the Buried and Me album drops tomorrow and it is amazing! Check it out! (I didn’t download illegally, I pre-ordered and got it a day early).

Hail to the King Intro Tutorial and Finger/Pinky Exercises

Awesome video! Thanks for the lesson! As a KU alumni I do have to say my only negative comment on this is the MU pants.

    Are Yamaha Pacifica's any good?

If it feels good and sounds good to you its a good guitar.

what dream theater album should I listen to first

Train of Thought and Metropolis part 2 are both great especially if you are coming from listening to metallica. Those albums are a bit heavier and have some phenomenal playing on them.

Have you met Synyster Gates? What happened?

@christopher I met them on that 2004 warped tour as well! That was such a crazy time!

    Kiesel Guitars

Thanks for the info! I’ve had my eye on one for a long time. They look absolutely amazing but I am hesitant to spend a lot of money on a guitar I have never played.

    I feel broke

I played an old Squier Strat forever! It’s what I learned on and what I spent all of my formative years playing. It is better to play a cheap guitar well than to suck but have an expensive guitar.

    Pinkly Smooth

I have a copy I got from CD Baby back in the day. Great album. I don’t think it needs a remaster. The low production is a big part of the charm.

What are you currently listening to?

Prokofiev Piano Concerto number 3 and Gustav Holtz Planets Suites. Check them out! They are some of the most “metal” classical pieces around.

    Kiesel Guitars

Does anyone have any opinions on Kiesel guitars? They make some amazing looking instruments but I have never been able to try one out. Does anyone have any experience or thoughts on them?

What lessons would you like to see added?

Something I think the community would value too would be lessons breaking down songs, riffs and solos. Maybe some background into the writing process of that particular section. Syn tends to make some very interesting and intriguing note choices and a breakdown of specific licks and the...

What lessons would you like to see added?

I would love some ear training exercises. Break it down on identifying intervals then chords, progressions, etc. That is an invaluable skill. A lesson on reading lead sheets and learning jazz standards would be invaluable and is something often overlooked by rock guitarists but will make them...

To A7X and Syn gates Lets talk about what we want the next album to be like

I want them to do what they feel most fulfilled to do as artists. I love how they have continued to get more harmonically complex. I hope they continue to do that while they grow as musicians and artists.
