Arpeggios in a Single Position – Lesson 50

Hey all. Lesson 50 inspired me to do a 10 day workout program focussing on triads of the major scale (for now: G major). In the lesson, PG plays the arpeggiated triads of the chords within the key of G major staying in one position of the scale (a CAGED position, not 3NPS). The seven basic...

Being a beginner: My experience and perspective!

When I started a couple of months ago, for the first weeks i physically couldn't play for more than five minutes per day, my fingers would just hurt too much. I didn't have much hope that I could possibly ever be able to really play guitar at that point. Then, after my calluses finally built...

Does anybody have any tips to help me memorize the fretboard? Please Help!!!

This is really something I need to start putting my time into, just rote learning the notes. I think I have a solid understanding of at least the fundamentals of music theory (also due to my background in playing orchestral trumpet), and I've been getting better at navigating the fretboard, but...

Regular scales or three notes per string?

I'm still a beginner, but I very much like the one-octave versions of these shapes (ie. only the low 3 strings, such that the resulting micro pattern only covers one octave). These micro patterns are movable not only along the fretboard, but also across the fretboard, as long as you know where...

Papa Roach - Last Resort - Main Riff at 70 bpm 8th notes

Been playing since march, I feel like my alternate picking and palm muting has already cleaned up a lot. Played with 8th notes at 70 bpm, this is currently about my comfort speed (obviously depends on the songs). I also want to incorporate the chorus riffs into this, but there is still a lot of...

The Seven Positions of a Major Scale – First Position – Lesson 52

So the CAGED system is one way of finding arpeggios on the fretboard, extending these arpeggios to build up the five "pentatonic boxes" and finally extending these boxes to include the full major scale, right? The five pentatonic boxes, as we learn them in the CAGED lessons, can be thought of...

Comment by 'chris_is_cool' in media 'Sweet child o'mine intro lick, 80 bpm'

Thanks so much for the kind words everyone, this is very encouraging :D. You are probably right that it is about time for a small metronome increase, its sometimes hard to find the compromise between being too comfortable and pushing too hard too soon.

Sweet child o'mine intro lick, 80 bpm

I'm a beginner, just 2 months in, so don't expect anything ^^. Trying to clean this up before moving to higher bpm.

Important Strumming Patterns – Lesson 19

Honestly, the palm mute coming from open strumming is killing me right now. My guitar teacher wants me to learn it as well, and I find it a lot harder than any technique I learned up to this point. I can palm mute tight power chords just fine, but doing a white open strumming pattern and...

I don't know how this status thing works, but... Gonna start learning Judas Priest - Living After Midnight today, and keep improving on parts of Breaking The Law (also Priest) that I haven't nailed yet.
