    Writing

For riff-style writing, I like to just get a beat going, whether it's with a drum machine program (I use EZDrummer) or even just a YouTube video of a drumbeat or something. Find a basic beat and pick your tempo, then just start trying things and playing over it. After a few minutes, a basic riff...

Captain Ed's AOTM February 2022: Pink Floyd - The Wall

By this point, you’ve all heard Comfortably Numb, the classic rock song with what is often regarded as the best blues-rock solo of all time, and the blistering coda, where a fiery David Gilmour peels paint from walls with his multi-million dollar black Stratocaster. Hell, even modern blues man...

    CJ's 2 Cents on: Van Halen's Discography!

Great write-up! I few thoughts. Van Halen III was NOT Sammy Hagar. That was Extreme's Gary Cherone, and it is a steaming pile of hot garbage, and I say that as a superfan of Extreme. Sammy has an amazing voice, and when his heart is in it, it can give you chills, but lyrically.... yeah...

    Tough times

Sounds like it was about snuffing out his last marriage, which lines up, timing-wise, if memory serves. Sorry you're in a dark time. The dark times are not forever, and they help us appreciate the light more, when it does come. Hang in there.

How to go about organizing media?

There's three major parts, and they both suck. Part 1. Create category folders, review ALL that you have, and drop them into category folders. Remember that "trash" is a category, and empty the trash when you're done. Part 2. Go into each category folder and rename each "keeper" to a name...

SynTV - The Tone Zone - Learning your gear and creating a tone you love

Outside of the STRONG "stoner silver fox" vibes this guy throws out like crazy, he really knows his stuff and this video describes compression in great detail. He knows it because he wrote the plug-in.

SynTV - The Tone Zone - Learning your gear and creating a tone you love

Pretense, resonance and contour are all EQ boosts or cuts with a static “q.” Q is just a measurement of how wide the “hill” in the EQ curve is, with the presence, contour or resonance providing a control to move where the “peak” of the EQ curve is. Presence is usually mid-high to high...

    Economy picking

If I remember correctly, both Syn and Papa said that once they started learning economy picking it took them a couple years to get up to speed with it.

Synyster Custom S pin stripe vs Satin Burst

That will happen with anything with a satin finish. There are probably ways to clean it up when that happens, but I'm not aware of them - not a satin finish fan.

Drums My mistake in my kicking technique

It's funny how doing something slightly wrong, but doing it thousands of times, can take a toll on your body. Funny-strange, not funny-haha. Glad you figured it out!

SynTV - The Tone Zone - Learning your gear and creating a tone you love

My very favorite clean tones I get leave the bridge in humbucker and mix in a single coil middle or coil-tapped neck - best of both worlds! For the demo song in the beginning of the stream, that was how I started. Thanks for watching!

    Guitar String Gauge

I think it’s fine. Some may think it’s a bit floppy, but it’s good for me!

    Guitar String Gauge

Gate keeping and elitism. I used 9-46 for DECADES and then 10-46, 10-48, 10-52, 9.5-44, and an 11-52 set on my old 91 540R. Now, I'm 9-42 on standard, 9-46 on Drop D, 9.5-44 on Eb Standard and, I think, 10-48 on Drop C#. Never heard of hybrid strings warping a neck. These things are hard wood...

    Here we go again..

Well, Zacky’s the punk 🤣. Syn is more classical and gypsy jazz. but again, nothing wrong with what you said in the context you said it, it just deviated from the general tone of the site, which is fine. You be you, as long as you follow the rules, which I would link here if I was a good mod...
