    What's your fave Evanescence album?

And then there's the last nail in my old man coffin. Eesh, you kids today...

    What's your fave Evanescence album?

Holy shit, you just made me feel so old. I'd picked up Fallen shortly after my 33rd birthday, driving my new-to-me first convertible from Northern Utah to southern Arizona to a close friend's surprise 30th birthday party. I listened to that CD the whole way down (like 13 hours of driving. And...

I am struggling with knowing how my song would be perceived. Can anyone offer reassurance about this song?

If I was mixing it, I'd make the drums a bit louder, and I'd probably add some compression on the master buss and some reverb on the guitar parts to help them sit better. Some of the vocals have a very David Bowie feel to them, which is a cool vibe.

    What's your fave Evanescence album?

As an album I'll stick with Fallen. It's a great hard rock album with solid sonwriting and performances, however an honorable mention for Anywhere but Home, because Amy Lee sounds one HELL of a lot better live than on any studio recording I've heard.

Purdy! I like the bridge, and the maple on the neck has a nicely mellowed look to it.

Using audio interface for recording guitar and amp sims stuff

OK, this is why I asked. You're inputting just a plain guitar - no amp, no effects. That's what records, and that's what hits the headphones. The quality of the headphones or speakers has no effect on the recorded tone. You need to put your amp sim in the effects loop of the recorded track to...

Using audio interface for recording guitar and amp sims stuff

The headphones in the interface are for you to listen back to what you're doing. If the guitar tone going in is good, then it will be nearly as good in the headphones or studio monitors. Based on the things you're saying here, I'm more interested in hearing about other elements of your setup...

I need to change my strings! (and you too, Ari 🦆🔪)

    1. Wire cutters as Alicia said. Don’t be psycho. A simple string winder. Maybe $2-3 at a guitar shop for no-frills. This will also help you pop the string holding dowels in the acoustic as well. 2. correct. They are built very differently. Wrapping the nylon strings at the bridge is a magical...

Has anyone listened to Back From The Dead by Halestorm?

I generally don't like their songwriting, but LOVE Lzzy's voice, so I tend to enjoy their covers a lot more. I just listened to BftD, and it's catchy - I like it.

How do you think music will evolve?

And it will all be Johnny's fault.

Hello! I signed up last week.

Welcome! With your background, you should pick things up quickly, and hopefully you'll also be able to manage how less RIGID things are in the rock world. Enjoy!

Considering Giving Up On Lead Guitar....

Try the 9s on a fixed bridge guitar first, if you can. Don't worry about intonation or anything until you know you want to change. THEN you can worry about Uncle Floyd on your Anubis and other wibbly-bridge guitars.

Considering Giving Up On Lead Guitar....

Brave post, as always, Jak. Some thoughts. Difficulty bending. Can I talk to you about our Lord and Savior, 9-42s? The idea that heavy strings "sound better" is bullshit (BEATO SAID SO!), so it comes down to how it feels to YOU, the player, and no silly bragging rights bullshit. If you're...

How am I supposed to make the lower and higher notes sound good at the same time?

I'm guessing the amp distortion is for rhythm, and the overdrive pedal is kicked on for leads. If not, that's probably something you should try. If you do that, you can turn the tone down on the overdrive pedal to take some of the edge off the treble in the leads. If that kind of setup means...

Do you crank up your amp volume or guitar volume?

It is volume, but it tends to roll off treble frequencies first and fastest, so rolling a volume down to 9 can take the "bite" out of (especially a clean) tone. Since a dirty, high-gain tone is heavily compressed by design, it can seem like the volume doesn't really go down much until the knob...

Do you crank up your amp volume or guitar volume?

For a rock or metal tone, your guitar volume should be duct-taped at 10, full on. That should be your default at all times, unless you're going for something specifically that requires it be lower. As far as cranking an amp, it's definitely more about tube amps than anything else, and cranking...
