    Zappa Cab IRs for Fractal

In honor of his pappy's 80th birthday, Dweezil Zappa and some engineers made IRs of some of Frank's classic speaker cabinets, and they're giving them away for the holidays! Free IRs in Celebration of the 80th Birthday of Frank Zappa | Fractal Audio Systems Forum In the spirit of the holiday...

A CHRISTMAS GIFT TO YOU from Phil Spector

Never heard this (more of a Perry Como guy myself, when it comes to Christmas). Going to listen on my bike ride today. My cousin Patrick recently married Phil's daughter Audrey, though I've never met her.

Meet Your New Queen/Me Renouncing My Role :)

It can be said that the hardest part of building a successful community is the beginning. Setting the tone, building the group, maintaining proper order. In that sense, you will never leave, because as much as this site and community is the brainchild (and funding) of @Syn Gates and @Brian Haner...

    Annual Care Package

Milwaukee? That's just the beer Ashley ordered 14 months ago.

    Love This Site Already

That was a conscious decision by Syn and Papa Gates when they started the site, and those of us who quickly became leaders here became so because of how strongly we live it and do our best to guide others in it. Thank you :) :syngates::papa-x::papa::syngates:

What are you currently listening to?

This guy got a ton of views for a shreddy but super tasty instrumental cover of Sultans of Swing busking in London. I looked him up this week, and his new 2020 album is a fantastic slab of classic-rock infused blues rock. He hits the wah a bit too much for my taste on some tunes, but I...

    how to sustain a note

This is a far more complicated question than you probably think it. "How do I make a note last longer?" What you're asking about is called sustain, as in, "how long can I sustain this note?" There are two fundamental parts to this. The first is "How do I keep the string vibrating for as long...

    Love This Site Already

I hear ya, man. I started in 1984 and the closest thing I had to anything was guitar magazines and photocopied pages from "Metal Method" that you waited two months for in the mail. Even the few tab books you could get were terrible, and music video editors didn't care if the shot of the...

    What's your guitar routine?

I start with a warmup of the basic 1-2-3-4 alternate picking at a VERY comfortable tempo (165 bpm at the moment) - not going for speed here, going for building consistency and reducing movement while also getting the blood going. I then segue into some downpicking warmups by running through MoP...

    Need help changing my strings

I think I see the problem. Without all six of the strings on and at some level of tension, the floating bridge is being pulled back by the springs underneath. Am I correct in assuming you remove all the strings, and then when you get the first new string on, it buzzes and you get frustrated? If...

    Amp Contest Winner!

I like it. It does a nice job, and the app is good for tweaking. I still have a lot of work to do to find the cabinet and settings I want, and I won't use it very often. The physical amps are the backup - the AxeFX IIXL+ is my main tone generator. You're gonna love the FM3.

    Amp Contest Winner!

I actually had a ProCo TurboRat in the 80s. Great lead tones; not so much on the rhythm. I'll check out the others, thanks!

    Amp Contest Winner!

I did pick up a Two Notes Captor X attenuator so I can push this and the MT-15 without making the neighbors' heads explode with rage. As we get closer to a ship date, I'm gonna have to score some distortion boxes. Horizon's Precision Drive is at the top of the list for metal stuff, and I...

Overview of The CAGED System – Lesson 23

These shapes are for learning, understanding, and sometimes using PARTS of. Very few people could do the "G" shape in, say, 5th position. I sure can't. But you can use PARTS of the shape for interesting chord ideas, and also for soloing ideas.

How long have you been playing?

35 or 36 years, on and off (mostly off from about 2000 to 2009). Gigged heavily in the 90s, just started gigging again right before Covid hit, and will crank up that machine again. Theory has been elusive but getting more and more to sink in, and working on more varied techniques than previously.
