    I took a peek at that lesson and it looks really interesting. I've played guitar for over 10 years and the CAGED method was unheard of to me until last year when I joined this community. But I can't wait to start getting deeper into the lessons so I can try to learn to play more freely.

    But if I recognize the shape that's being used for the chord wouldn't that also be the shape for the pattern that I'm using? For example if the chord is a D shape couldn't I play the D shape pattern to match the chord?

    So this is where some of my confusion lies. So when playing over these two chords you're basically listening for the chord progression and then alternating between the two patterns as needed right? Or wrong? I'm a little confused and I'm having trouble breaking the habit of playing up and down.

    One thing that I'm struggling with here is connecting the shapes. I'm still trying to memorize the notes on the fretboard but I've memorized all the pentatonic shapes and most of the major scale shapes. But I can't figure out how to break the box shape of playing up and down to start playing...

    At this point I'm thinking about getting a guitar with a whammy bar already attached. I'm trying to add more of a metal sound to my playing with some new tricks I learned and I'm not sure if I could apply those same whammy bar tricks to a Bigsby. Or could I?

    Thanks for the advice! I was looking at the Bigsby as well and I almost went with the Floyd Rose FRX before seeing this.
