    Pentatonic and soloing

Both options are possible. You can either play the pentatonic scale of the key the song is in or you can change per chord. You can use every position of a scale. Just try out and find the sound you want. Also you can flavour the solo with different notes like the 4th and 7th of the chord you...

left-handed playing right-handed guitar (and vice versa?)

I’m a left-handed playing right-handed guitars, too and i feel comfortable with it. I started it because my brother does the same thing and so I allways had right-handed guitars around. When I recently bought my electric guitar I tried a left-handed guitar just for fun and it felt totally...

    Tips for transcribing

Thank you, Sophie. I guess this will help me. Even though it will take much time for my ear to get better. I am kind of lazy because I’m terribly bad by now. I recognized the different sound between open and fretted notes in my own playing so I guess I can learn it. I used to google the...

Suggestion For the Synyster Gates School

I see another problem in a point system. We all are at very different skill levels and some have played much longer than others. Also you can’t compare different music styles with each over well. Besides I would like some kind of folder system at the community riff section. Everytime I go there...

Mad respect to A7X regarding the Grammy's

I visited a small guitar festival yesterday. It was more about fingerstyle and classical guitar but the musician, who organized the festival said: “There is so much essential music you can’t hear on the radio, but so much music on the radio that is not essential.” That brings it on the point...

    Is CAGED really that bad?

Yeah your A major chord is correct. All the major scales can be played all over the fretbord and ar allways in this pattern you mentioned: between the 3rd and 4th and between the 7th and 8th note are cromatic staps in every major scale. I suggest to not rush through the lessons. for example I do...

    Is CAGED really that bad?

When you are watching lesson 21 you are still two lessons away from the CAGED system lessons. I recommend watching them and I recommend to blend in the fretbord in the option section so you can see which note is played. Lessons 24 to 28 explain the CAGED system in case of a D major. It shows the...

Anyone else practice plain acoustic guitar?

Yeah, I know this phenomenon. It has taken me a long time until something came up that did not sound cheerful. I enjoy most music from Sigur Ros to Pantera.

What are you currently listening to?

I just saw Jaimi Faulkner tonight at a local show as part of a small guitar festival.

    Tips for transcribing

I have a question about transcribing, too. Is there an easy way to figure out the tuning of the song? Or is the only way to find out, that it’s far too difficult to be played in standard?

    Acoustic question

I assume you somehow pull the string while putting your finger off. Try to put your finger vertically off the fretbord and not parallel. If this doesn’t work it would be interesting to see a video. Then we can probably see what creates the sound.

    accessing the video

Weird, I guess you hit the reload button, too 🙁 Sometimes it is stuck in loading in my case, too. But if I reload there is no problem at all. Really strange your problem.

    Hit A Wall

Yeah this can work. One thing papa gates says in some lesson is, if you think you are stuck in a tempo, then skip the tempo you are stuck in and increase the tempo and try as much as you can to play to this more difficult tempo. This will probably sound horrible but if you go back to the tempo...

    Good low-intermidiate guitar solos

Thank you Ids and Dave. I tried to do some things by ear but it takes sooooo long.

    Hit A Wall

Are you only practicing sweep picking? If so you can swap between this and the next day you learn something different. Or you have a day you only play some songs and have fun. This is what I do and it helps me. I’m learning the CAGED system right now and I get exhausted. So I started to combine...

    Good low-intermidiate guitar solos

If you learn a solo, do you allways figure it our by yourself or do you look up the tabs or look videos of the artist to see what he does?

    S T R E S S E D

If you really want to play guitar than go for it. I was about your age when I first grabbed up a guitar and played a bit for about a year and then gave up. I could play basic chords and strumming patterns but my obstacle was picking single strings. About almost two years ago I started again and...

    It's hard out here for a lefty……

In the option section you can flip the video, so it’s the right way around for lefties. I am a sefty but I play righthanded guitars and It felt totally awkward to try out a lefty guitar.

    Top 5 favourite guitarists

Great suggestions. I’ve never made any kind of list in my head. Some more suggestions would be: Mark Tremonti Slash (I’m listening to Velvet Revolver right now) David Gilmour Jimmy Page I recommend Yasi hofer. She’s awesome and did somethings with Steve Vai.
