    Alexi Laiho has passed away

One of my more recent influences. The impact he had on the international metal scene was massive. He will be greatly missed

Fender CEO wants to sign Syn

As good as Fender is (and they are!), no thanks. Schecter is much more up the A7X alley. Even though it would be very unlikely, I think it would be cool to see a split sponsorship if Syn ever released any jazz work with a Fender model behind it. But I'd like to avoid them for metal.

    Strings

Jacques nailed it. Floyds are all about the balancing game. That's mainly why people either love them or hate them. Personally I'm in the love boat because all of my Floyd-equipped guitars stay in tune for a week at a time. To solve the problem of it moving so much when changing strings, take...

    Metal with a symphony!

Been listening to Eclipse by Brand of Sacrifice a ton lately. Has a symphonic aspect, but they also incorporate a Latin choir and it's goosebumps.

By our own judgement, we can only get better right?

Audio Interface for playing/recording at home.

Anything from Focusrite or MOTU in that price range is excellent. I use Focusrite myself and have no need to upgrade. I would however recommend staying away from Behringer, as their quality is not 100% up to par with the aforementioned.

Not too expensive guitar for lower tunings

I second this. I've used my Drop and loved it for years, but I don't go below 3 half-steps with it. The latency ever so slightly increases with each half-step and past 3 is where it starts to get noticeable. Absolutely invaluable in my personal rig though, especially since I have so many...

    Influences ?

First order: Syn’s alternate picking, Buckethead and Will Swan for out-of-the-box thinking, and Jason Richardson for technicality Second order: Ryan Castaldi for the hybrid lead/rhythm duality playing, and his name slips me now, but I love Volbeat’s simplistic yet effective riff writing, so I...

wich are your favorite genres besides of metal

Post-hardcore has always been my guilty pleasure. Dance Gavin Dance, Silverstein, Of Mice & Men, etc.

Do you guys have a favourite guitar type?

Personally, I LOVE offset guitars. Schecter Avenger, Explorer-type bodies, Fender Mustang, etc. I also have a bit of a brand loyalty to Schecter, having just acquired by third (no Syn models unfortunately).

    Advice to improve a lot

I believe the best way to see practical improvement, especially when your time is limited, is to focus your time strategically. First, you can find what you want to improve on, record yourself doing (or attempting) this, no matter how new you are to it, and listen back to that recording. This...

    Meet Your New Keymaster!

Congratulations and well deserved! You’ve helped countless people through this school and I can’t think of anyone better for the job.

    Heavier v lighter hand

I tend to play rather tight, with minimal movement on both hands overall. I generally find this allows me to be much more precise and it works better since I prefer thinner string gauges to begin with so I’m not throwing the tuning sharp by hitting the strings too hard. Minimal movement is my go-to.

This guy is pumping out JAM after JAM at Buckethead rates. Love it.
