    What budget are you looking at? And are you playing with people or by yourself? Because for recording purposes and overall versatility the line 6 helix stomp looks attractive. And plus you could plug it into an amp for live volume. Or sometimes to can find a used 5150/6505 combo for very cheap.

    Has this been an issue for you since you first had the guitar? Or did it start recently? If its recent, try changing the 9 volt. Low battery voltage does strange things to active pickups. Or maybe angle the pickups. Bring the bass side up higher and lower the treble.

    darkening fretboard?

    From the looks of it on their website it seems like it will clean off of the inlays. But with any kind of modification to the finish there is no absolute guarantee. The least damaging thing would be to clean the fretboard and condition it. The conditioner will soak in and darken the wood a little.

    Stewmac.com sells black fingerboard “stain” but it is just India ink. Maybe just pick some up from an art supply and follow the instructions that are on the stewmac product page.
