    Starting bits.

I'd recommend going with thinner strings because they will be easier on your fingers. And i think it will allow you to much more efficiently develop your string bending technique, which is in my opinion one of the most important techniques to learn :)

    Question on Modes

Yeah sorry, i'm not well versed in the actual language of music theory so i had to look up "heptatonic" hahah,. But i believe diatonic is the correct term to describe what i'm talking about, as heptatonic scales include harmonic and melodic minor as well, and other things im unaware of probably!

A few of the big things holding me back

It's most importantly about spending time improvising over music. But don't play a lot of notes, try to make every single note have a purpose and consciously bring it down to become as simple as possible. Think about melody and rhythm. If you feel uninspired and like you're not progressing...

A few of the big things holding me back

First of all I don't think being hard on yourself and having high standards is necessarily a bad thing actually as it can create a strong drive to constantly improve, but it can get to a point where you stop enjoying playing guitar and that is not good obviously. And in regards to...

    Question on Modes

What made modes click for me was when i realized that there is ONLY ONE scale you need to learn, which is the 7 note heptatonic scale. You can move it around the neck to change key, but the intervals are the exact same. And also the context you play it in (over what chords you play) changes the...

How would one go about getting an A7X style to my playing and writing?

Ive played for about 15 years at this point, and i still have a hard time describing it, but i think that's because you probably can't really boil it down into simple terms. My perception of what personal playing style is, is that it has to be mostly feel and intuition. But to build intuition...

How do i get a good guitar tone in a home studio?

Hey yall! I find it hard to get a good answer by googling and it's a pretty intimidating subject to get into and start learning about, just because there is so much information out there. In my home studio all i have is a sound card (focusrite 2i4) that i plug directly into. I use BIAS...

2 Year of playing for what?

@isaac Moss Dude I know not everyone says theory is good but to become creative without knowledge of the instrument you’re essentially running around inside a jungle(the fretboard) and you’d have to reinvent the wheel. So true man! I used to kind of avoid theory because i was afraid it would...

2 Year of playing for what?

Don’t be too hard on yourself! There’s nothing that kills creativity better than being judgemental towards yourself, and tbh, you can’t expect to write amazing music after just 2 years of playing. It really takes time to learn an instrument and it’s very hard to be creative when your focus is...

The Stage intro (2 finger tapping)

Heya 🙂 Been working on the intro to the stage for a good while. Just started playing again after a pretty long break, so i’m at it again with this intro. I’m kind of starting to get it down now but what i’m still struggling with a bit is the 2 finger tapping stuff. Especially learning to tap...

I need support from you guys!

Song sounds fucking insane dude! Love it. Amazing solo too! 🙂 The mix is pretty heavy on the bass though so some parts are hard to hear. Keep it up! I’d love to hear a full album from you guys 😀 This reply was modified 6 months, 1 week ago by  oskar foogerbrant.

    Help with Afterlife solo

The fast parts are mainly sweep picking and alternate picking. It’s one of those solos that you will only be able to play properly once you’ve mastered those two techniques. So just grab that metronome and start building it up slowly 😀 But I’d say just give it your best shot now and when you...

    Help with Afterlife solo

I used to practice this solo A LOT. Can’t play the whole thing now because i kinda forgot the notes but if you’re more specific about techniques/parts you struggle with, i can take a look at it 😀

    Solo Trouble

@brandon Diemert I bet people have told you this already, but honestly, there’s only ONE way that i know of, that’s actually efficient and reliable, to build speed with alternate picking, or any technique for that matter: play at a tempo where you can execute whatever it is you’re playing...

    Solo Trouble

There’s a great mental model(please look up mental models, https://fs.blog/mental-models/ ) called “First Principles” that I love. It’s a really simple concept of breaking down something to it’s simplest form. For example, “what is vibrato”. Love that you are posting so much on the forums, it’s...

Am I close to playing Seize the day solo correctly?

The one i’m thinking of is at 0:25 in your video 🙂 I only noticed one fast part in the solo so i just assumed that was the one you meant, sorry hehe..

Discomfort and loss of technique after less than a day between playing

This happened to me a lot in the beginning. Just keep playing. Picking, especially, will feel like a very unnatural movement at first qand it will take a while before your brain gets used to it. So just keep reminding your brain how it should be done and you will eventually do it without...

Am I close to playing Seize the day solo correctly?

Sounds spot on man! You really play those bends well, which is definitely one of the hardest and most important skill to have as a guitar player, in my opinion 🙂 Keep it up! Edit: As for the fast part: it’s a pentatonic which he’s playing in 2 parts so to speak. 13-10 (E) 13-10 (B) 12-10(G)...

    string noise

Like it wa ssaid above, use whatever fingers you have free to lightly touch the strings that you don’t want to ring out. You can also use your right hand to mute the lower strings, in some cases. But what it comes down to is just playing. Just try to be constantly aware of strings ringing out...
