Hello everyone! I have recently just made the switch from acoustic to an electric guitar. What amp brands would you recommend? I am not looking for anything high-end fancy since I am just playing for fun. Thanks all! 🙂

Hey you! I recognize you from Instagram! I’ve heard some people say pretty decent things about Roland Cube and I play on a spider Line 6 that I think is really good although a lot of people make fun of it. As long as you know how to dial in your tones:)

Hey, I play a Fender Mustang v2, which is an incredible amp to beginn with. It isn’t expensive at all, can serve various musical directions and has an immense amount of stuff to change and set your personal tone. And if this is too much for you you can just use one or two presets and use them to play and jam. Also it sounds pretty good for the price category, but no comparison to a tube amp of course.

As others have said, the Line6 products and Boss Katana – modeling amps with lots built in, offer the best tone for the buck for the newer player, and even some very seasoned players like the all-in-one. I know any time I go to Guitar Center to try guitars, I usually wind up plugging into a Line6 amp. Dependable, solid tone I know I can count on.

It’s all in what you want. Do you play through the amp? PC, headphones? Are you looking to jam with friends, record? When I walked in the store a few months ago looking, I was gonna buy a marshall or vox, and ended up with the spider V. If you tell them what you want iny our amp, they will do a good job finding you the amp that best suits your needs. All amps have strengths and weaknesses, its finding which amp works best for you.

I second Ed…as always… I feel you can’t really go wrong with anything in the Boss Katana series or the Line 6 spiders. I developed my chops on a Spider IV…I have a Fractal now and always say IF for some reason I would ever absolutely have to get rid of it..I would get a Katana. From the videos I’ve watched, it’s pretty much plug and play. A dude I work with sorta switched to electric like you and picked up a katana and absolutely loves it..even without really knowing how to “dial it in”. I actually recently purchased the Katana Mini..and for what that little guy is..I absolutely love it!!! Ultra portable and sounds really freaking awesome for such a small little guy. Happy choosing!!

The Boss Katana is a great choice. It’s easy to get a good tone out of those (especially if it’s your first time playing electric) and it comes with a bunch of built in effects. I wouldn’t recommend the Line 6 Spiders because it’s really difficult to get a usable tone out of those and there are so many other better amps in the same price range. Amps simulators might also be a good choice because you get such great sound for a really great price.

I’ve got a super tiny (old as hell) line 6 and I like it okay. We recently purchased a tube amp made by black star (they’re dudes who used to be with Marshall) and I gotta say it’s pretty kick ass ! It was around $700 USD…but I’d say it’s worth it ! My husband and I both play only for fun as well and it was definitely a splurge but I don’t regret it.
