Buried alive solo tips

I’m working on the buried alive solo currently and I’m noticing that sometimes the arpeggio licks from the begging don’t sound the cleanest and I was wondering if anyone had tips to get them to voice a little better?

Ooh you mean the 2 string sweeps. What do you exactly struggle with?

I didn’t know that those were sweeps. If I’m thinking of the right part. It looked like it was alternate pick to me but I could be wrong. Regardless, if you are struggling with sweeps coming through cleanly, the best thing that helped me is to slow the metronome down and to really make sure you’re digging into the string and not just gently sweeping over it. I think giving a little bit of pressure to the pick in the direction that you’re going to the string really helps give it a little bit more of a pronounced sound. Also make sure you’re doing proper muting and your hand-to-hand coordination is good. If not you could accidentally mute some notes or they won’t come through as pronounced. It’s not really sweeps it’s more of a pull off and you generally wanna treat it similar to economy picking

OK that sounds a little bit more logical. But if you’re talking about like I said the part that I think you’re talking about, which obviously you are, what exactly is it that you are having problems with? If it’s the pull off part not coming through clearly, work on legato exercises to strengthen up that pinkie. A lot of it will come from Hand-to-hand coordination. I mentioned his name many times (cuz I am a fan of his tutorials, so pardon me). HAve you seen the videos by Chris Zoupa? That might help you to know the exact technique being used to play certain parts. Rest is just practice and practice and practice.

It’s not really economy picking. It really is a 2 string sweep. If you start a big 5 string sweeps it’s just the first 2 strings of that. Hence a 2 string sweeps. Economy picking is a mix of alternate picking and sweepinG and there isn’t really any alternate picking involved. If you struggle with that you could try to have a look at sweep picking etudes I I think it is. That’s a great exercise!

I think sweep picking etude VI is really helpful for this. Pay close attention to the picking pattern in the tab, this picking pattern might feel a bit awkward at first, it did for me, but it has really helped me with that sort of stuff.

Yeah that one can help for the second arpeggios part with the big 12 to 19 stretch. I’m now a bit lost at which part you actually struggle with because there are actually three parts with arpeggios in that solo

I remember I had the exact same problem when I was learning it a few years back; what you need to do is really slow down the metronome and practice a down stroke on the high E followed by economy picking the high E an to the B. Another way you could do it is use pull offs for the notes on the high E and just use one upstroke from the high E to the B.

To everyone who is mixed up, I am talking about the part with the two string Sweep that involve a pull off on the high E and then continuing down the arpeggio either to the B or G string depending on which repetition you’re on.
I’m thinking my next step is to practice to a metronome and check out some sweeping Etudes

I believe I made a mistake, I thought I remembered applying a 2-string sweep like in etude VI in the buried alive solo, but after playing it again I realised I actually didn’t. I probably mixed it up with with another song in my mind. But yeah the part you’re talking about seems most easily played with economy picking.
But still, it might be nice to check out some etudes. Sweep picking etude VII actually contains some of the 3-string sweeps of the buried alive solo and it’s basically the same as etude VI but on 3 strings instead of 2.
