    So if economy is alternate and sweeping together, do I need to be strong at sweeping before I attempt economy? Watching the new etudes made me realize that it’s a way more fluent and relaxed technique rather than just shredding through the strings and I would like to implement it into my playing, but I’m not very good at sweeping.

    @brandon I personally felt that economy kind of helped me transition into sweeping because it was just a small little sweeping CONCEPT without actually having to focus on raking across so many strings. But I honestly think you could practice both techniques simultaneously. It’s awesome you’re really looking at his right hand because that’s been a huge game changer for me lately as well!

    Sweeping in both economy picking and arpeggios requires the same technique. And that the technique is just to be relaxed with the motion, and you are moving from one string to next in the same movement. The differences really is what ideas you are playing. With economy picking I’m thinking “Right, 3 notes a string pattern is on its way”. Sweeping an arpeggio I’m thinking “up down up down’. That being said, im not a strong economy picker, but I can sweep an arpeggio…
