fixing wrist tension while playing

Hey friends, I am re-learning after several years break! A big issue is wrist tension/aches in my right hand (I play left-handed).
I try my best to not over-bend my wrist, and think I’m gripping too much (causing tension)
When I shift my focus to that problem to adjust, I play wrong notes because I am no longer thinking about the next note. It’s driving me nuts!
Any suggestions/tips? or is it just a matter of slowing down and really focusing on that problem?
Thanks!
(I’d pay for a few actual lessons, for technique and stuff, but university is expensive!)

What I do is do praying hands 🙏 start with your thumbs pointed mid way to your sternum and while moving slowly bring your hands down so your thumbs are pointed to your belly button :). Another good thing is move your hand in a circular motion while moving your fingers to your palm very slowly one finger at a time.
Hope this helps

It’s very important to stretch properly to avoid injury, just as with any other physical exercise. One thing I was taught when I did formal training was to warm up for about 5 minutes, then stretch for about 10 minutes. I like to stretch my wrist every which way, and also stretch each finger. Hope this helps!
