So I just gave the new Godsmack album a listen (although I never listened to much of their music I really like the album) and while listening I thought to myself ‘this voice is damn close to the one of M. Shadows!’. And somehow I imagined his voice in Avenged Songs and came to think that also would work really well.
What do you guys think? Wouldn’t it be cool to hear either of the two bands cover each other?

I might be fangirling a little bit too hard but nobody will ever sound similar in any way shape or form to M Shadows. Just like the same thing is that I don’t think anybody will ever sound close at all to Sully Erna. I personally think that any type of musical collaboration is great. But I love M Shadows with Avenged Sevenfold stuff and I like Sully Erna with Godsmack stuff. I think the only time I ever really liked a collaboration was when M Shadows sang on Good Charlotte’s song The River. I kind of laughed and said to myself “I wished he would have sang on the entire song because it made the song just a million times better.”

You are right Jak, Shadows voice is a one of a kind, still I found to hear quite some similarity here and there on the new album regarding teh voice. This was of course more of a mindgame here but I think it would be interesting to hear in a direct comparison.
And with The River you are right again! Also loved Syns playing in the song, his sound and style is just unique.

You’re right about that Ed. But I think with Godsmack, Sully has the main say to how songwriting goes. They’ve got a formula that works for them and they put out consistently decent material. And so in Godsmacks case, I think it works best as Sully and three other dudes whereas with A7X, it’s always been a collaboration of everyone’s influences. (Although I hear the new Godsmack album is a bit more adventurous)

Matt’s done a great job embracing his voice over the years. I gotta admit tho, when I heard the Rev sing, it gave me chills down my spine. He was such a good vocalist in every way. Those two were breath taking together. Like in lost..

I have heard this same thing from some of my friends as well. There are certain songs where Matt might have done better, especially with his nasal tendency. But again, that unique voice is what makes Matt and has given the vocal identity of A7X that we now easily relate to. So overall, Matt is, has been and will be the Voice of Deathbat. A collab sounds good though, between A7X and Godsmack.
