I'm working on Crimson Day and I'm finding that it's easier if I hold my electric like a classical guitar. Resting on my left thigh with the neck pointing up. I don't necessarily want this to become a habit, but it makes reaching frets easier without muting strings. Is it worthwhile to learn the song in this position and then try and transition the guitar back to a more standard orientation? I'm afraid that I'll have to relearn the song in the more standard position.

You can definitely learn and build the muscle memory in the easier position, and you’ll still know how to play it, you’ll just have to make adjustments depending on how you position yourself after wards. But the classical position is not a bad thing to get into and it is easier for a reason, and so many classical players use it because it makes things easier! Also you can do the classical position standing up too, depending on how low your strap is!
