Hello everyone,
I own a epiphone les paul tribute, which is rather cheap guitar.
I notice that my G string always detunes, certainly after doing a bend.
Is it feasible to change the tuners? If yes which one do i buy best and how much would it cost?
Thanks in advance for your advise
Michael

Hello!!
I have owned an epiphany SG 7 years ago, and it did not have this problem to be completely honest with you.
But, it is very normal.
Sometimes “cheaper guitars” (I am
Not calling your guitar cheap, but “more affordable”) have tuners that can detune.
You could get a new set of tuners. I think Gibson uses Gotoh! It is a very nice brand.
The Synyster custom have gotohs.
Good luck my friend !!

New tuners are usually a great upgrade! Locking tuners are definitely what I’d recommend and they generally start around $60 and go up from there. Theres also a super cheapo way of helping string stability. Take a graphite pencil and rub some graphite in the string cut outs in the nut. This works because budget nuts tend to be made of materials that grab the string when it’s moving (bending, vibrato, etc) and graphite help the string slide out of and back it pitch. It won’t solve the problem, but it will help and it’s essentially free!

It is rare to find a Les Paul without a tuning stability issue. Certainly my Gibson Traditional Pro has the same issue. Replacing tuners is always a good idea, but this problem is usually a friction on the nut thing, due to string angle over the nut. Graphite can work, but if it’s a bone or white nut, it can look terrible. In those cases, get some nut sauce.
