So I while ago I stared at forum topic on harmonic/melodic major scales and whether the exist and nobody helped me (no hard feelings or whatever probably should have done some research myself) and now I kinda studied it for a bit and figured I might as well share what I found.
Harmonic major is basically the same as harmonic minor but with a major 3rd instead of a minor third. Its modes would be:
1 Harmonic major
2 Dorian b5
3 PhrygIan b4
4 lydian b3
5 mixolydian b9 (or b2)
6 Lydian augmented #2
7 Locrian bb7
Codes would be
1 2 3 4 5 b6 7
1 2 b3 4 b5 6 b7
1 b2 b3 b4 5 b6 b7
1 2 b3 #4 5 6 7
1 b2 3 4 5 6 7
1 2 3 b4 b5 6 7
1 b2 b3 4 b5 b6 bb7
The thing I would call melodic major(with a b6 and b7) would be the 5th mode of the melodic minor scale.
Hope this helps anyone interested in this stuff!
