Okay this will be a long post let’s begin, so back about a month or 3 weeks ago the site was down I was so angry about how long it took the first few times of checked if it was up, then as time went on I began to think this is not bad. About a week ago I became so motivated to play guitar I learned a JP solo that’s right a John petruccI solo this made me feel like I was doing great I got out of the rut I was in finally and felt good, and I remember Jak said to me that it would take years to learn a dream theater solo because they where almost impossible this really put me down I knew she ment well on it but I felt like I would not go anywhere with guitar, now I feel like guitar is not a competitive thing anymore I feel like I was when I picked it up excited about playing I learned so much and now I feel my love for it again when the site was down. It’s like I feel stupid for even thinking that, I got everything up to speed I learned how to play fade to black clean so it almost sound like the studio recording, I follow my favorite guitar players like I once did I do what JP said to do write down the things you want to complete on guitar I started doing that, that has helped me so much. Anytime someone would suggest something on here I felt like no I’m not going to do that and I didn’t, I figure out I needed to rely on my self like I once did I didn’t have a forum to go to. Nowadays I feel great about playing sure I have my days where I’m like I don’t feel like playing guitar but it’s rare now. I’m inspired to play now. I met some great people I will not forget on here and they helped me, but overall I feel like I did when I started playing guitar. Farewell my friends maybe I’ll see you one day in person let’s just wait and see about that. What I learned now is that it’s not bad to feel good about thinking that you’re decent at playing guttar I don’t think I’m the greatest but I’m not bad I feel now back then I felt like I was the worst guitar player ever, now that everything is going great for me I don’t need this website anymore the only thing I can do is help people but I would like to do it in face to face matter. Again farewell my friends I will miss most of you. And good luck I hope for the best in your path of guitar playing.
Your friend Lachlan.

Whatever makes you feel the best about how you learn guitar is what matters. But please keep in mind Lachlan, I didn’t say that it takes years for anybody to learn a John Petrucci solo. I simply said that it depends on what your skill level is at. Like for me personally, it took me 2 years and over 300 hours worth of work to learn hail to the king. That was because I struggled with different parts. If you got it great! You worked a lot faster than I did. All I was trying to tell you, is that a lot of people struggle with John petrucci stuff and it depends on what solo you are trying to learn. I didn’t say that all of his solos were impossible to learn unless you spent years on them. It seems to me that you feel that our advice was counterproductive. And that’s OK. Ultimately you Should rely on yourself the most. But for me personally, it only took me so far. All I care about is that you found your light. If not with this school, then with something else!
Not everyone learns or operates the same way. You do your thing, homeboy 😎😎
Just please don’t forget all the hours students spent trying to help you out. I hate to play Devil’s advocate but you reached out to us numerous times for help. I even recall you thanking several people (including me) in a public post for how helpful we were to you.
So please don’t discredit that. That post meant a lot to all of us!!
Much love, my friend. I expect nothing but extraordinary things from you!!

Dude, i think what you are doing is a huge mistake. Don’t get me wrong I and everyone will, and do respect your decision but i think its the wrong one. You shouldn’t be here from a competitive stand point. No matter what peoples skill levels we should all be building each other up and feeling better for it. Don’t get disheartened because its taken one person a smaller amount of time to learn a solo than it has you. Everyone learns at their own pace, their own clock. Some people are ahead of you, some people are behind you, be patient, put in the hours and it will come. We should all be celebrating each others achievements and picking people up along the way. When i first started playing guitar i would have killed for a website such as this.
Now, i can see how this forum could sometimes be a distraction, i myself aren’t very active, so i can concentrate on what i need to do, but Im always logged in, sticking around. You can still rely on yourself to become the best version of yourself. Think of this website as a ‘guide’ and not THE only way to do something. Having this amount of people to give you advice is invaluable and shouldn’t be underestimated. Stick around mate, you wont regret it.

Well I can tell you I’m regretting this post, I don’t understand how it’s a mistake I was learning more without it. Did you not read what I said, I learned more the I ever did without this site I was more motivated. I didn’t have anything like this when I started I didn’t need it I had my self to rely on. I learned a few things on this site but nothing will happen without myself, I won’t regret this choice I thought about leaving before the site went down for a little bit because I felt so stuck. And I said in my post I don’t feel like guitar is competitive anymore. Start reading before posting your response. If you want to support me why wouldn’t you have said hey maybe this the best choice for you like jak. Again like I said I know there will be someone better then me I stated that before, you don’t need to point it out again. Sorry if you found this rude but I’m speaking about how I feel about this. I wish you luck, but imagine if you didn’t have the Internet you would have to rely on yourself for playing guitar you would learn by ear books magazines etc. I don’t want to rely on the Internet all the time. Most of the guitar players I think are the best didn’t rely on the Internet. I don’t know why people even want me here there’s really no point I don’t even help anyone, but people want me here, I feel stuck here and I feel I’ll never advance. All I can say is I wish you luck and I hope you can learn more then I did on the website.

Most great musicians relied on Music Education and Themselves. With today’s technology, you have almost all of the information by the palm of your hands.
Nobody got anywhere learning music by themselves, they either got help from a school, a teacher, books, anyone etc.
Excuse me if I sound harsh but I don’t really care if you quit or stay on this website. I could say the same for me. But just because you relied on yourself and it worked, doesn’t mean there’s no option to rely on two things at once.
With the help of the internet, you probably won’t even need to go to music school. Because most of those crucial information is right in front of you, for free.
But its your choice, and I say go ahead.

It’s Ok, Lachlan. We all only want what’s best for you. We’re all just simply friends, trying to look out for the welfare of one another. Sometimes the kind of love we give is called “tough love”, I don’t think Richard meant any harm by his post, if anything it came off more encouraging. But you do you, buddy.
Ultimately I can tell things are getting heated in this forum and we should just let things go to rest. Lachlan, if you feel it’s not helping you, than go on ahead and do your thing.
But on a personal note, there are some things that you said in your last comment that came off as “self loathing”, honestly. Don’t be like that. Don’t feel like just because you don’t “help” people, you don’t contribute. You asked questions that made me inspired to go research to try and help. So from you asking questions, I in turn, learned myself. You may give some people things to think about they never thought about before, and other people may have the same questions as you but they just don’t speak up about it.
In anyway, I say if you choose to quit the school, I hope you go in peace and find whatever it is you’re looking for.
Just remember this…
This site was created by a guitar icon that hundreds of thousands of guitarists look up to. He busted his ass off in music schools, laid hundreds of thousands of dollars into this site all just for you. Syn and Papa created this site JUST for you. Syn and Papa put their decades of knowledge and laid it out for you the best that they could to help you. For free. And there are thousands of guitarists around the world that would KILL for their governments to allow them access to this site, but they can’t, and never will. Maybe it’s not the lessons itself and maybe it’s the social aspect of it. Regardless, I don’t care where you go, but we’ll always be here if you need us.
Much love, brother.

Posts like this annoy me. It’s like the person leaving a Facebook group because they got offended about something, and they post about it, hoping everyone will beg them to stay. If you want to leave, leave. No one is forcing you to stay. You might be missed, but we’ll live.
