So I started thinking about my influences and I kinda started to label them as first, second and third order influences(yes I’m kinda using math terms her)
Basically it works as follows:
First order: your biggest influences you take into your own style(or want to take into your own style)
Second order: influences that are noticeable in your playing but not really as fundamentally important to you compared to the first order
Third order: influences you don’t really hear but are there regardless
For me it’s like this:
First order: Syn, John Mayer, George Harrison, John Frusciante and Django Reinhardt
Second order: Eric Clapton, B.B. king, Marty Friedman, Jason Becker and SRV(still kinda working on the last three)
Third order: Paul Gilbert, Gary Moore, Ritchie Blackmore, Jimmy Page, Adrian Smith

Musically influences ala artists I hear in my guitar work.
Lead: syn (obviously).. jerry Cantrell (the reverb bends that last forever) and mick mars (playing the same notes over and over definitely come from him).
Rhythm: There is also some punk riffs I’d say came from saves the day. My punk breakdowns. My clean picking is very jerry like. As well as my strumming. I feel a lot of my acoustic stuff resolves around the nutshell album. The distorted parts have some a7x in it. But I’d have to say most of that is more my heavier bands (drop c).
Lyrically: my favourite lyric writers are centers. Layne Staley chris Conley. I wouldn’t say matt had an effect on my lyrics.
Vocally: i hear Matt’s layers as well as Layne in my stuff. I have a huge scream that is getting much better. My high pitched are afi/escape the fate. My screams are definitely more older a7x and stick to your guns.
My top 5 influences are all named there. A7x the crue.. alice in chains. Saves the day. Afi.

My first order are Jim Root, Mick Thomson and Syn, but the guys from Slipknot influence me more when it comes to sound inspiration.
As for the second, here I would select Rammstein guitarists Paul Landers and Richard Kruspe. Also maybe I would mention Rob Scallon as for the clean guitar parts.
The third order… I cannot really think of anyone, but I would mention one of the earliest inspirations, and that is Tom Morello. Maybe Jared Dines a little, but not actually that much.
As for the vocalists and singers, I would mention Corey Taylor, M.Shadows (however the A7X cover of Wish You Were Here is the only one I am able to sing quite well) and Till Lindemann. Also Richard Kruspe is not a bad singer (I recomend his side project Emigrate). And Chris Cornell.

Hmm. I’ve been around a while, so my primary influences are mostly from the 80s.
First order: Rhoads, Satch, Bettencourt, DeMartini, Davey and H from Maiden, Frank and Tommy from Tesla, Keith Douglas from Tora Tora, Criss Oliva from Savatage, Mark Tremonti, Andy Timmons, Syn (I want him to be higher on the list, but his style is so unorthodox compared to my roots that it’s hard to incorporate – working on it though!)
Second order: Vai, Lynch, Slash, Scotti Hill, Richie Sambora, Tom Keifer, Steve Clark/Pete Willis,
Third order: Vernon Reid, Paul Gilbert, Adam D, Roy Z, Dime, Matt/Corey from Trivium, Jim Root, Jeff Waters (Annihilator), Tom Scholz, Brian Setzer, John Petrucci, Tony Lopacinski (Earth to Andy), Kai Hansen, probably a hundred more – you absorb everyone you listen to!

    First order:
Syn’s alternate picking, Buckethead and Will Swan for out-of-the-box thinking, and Jason Richardson for technicality
    Second order:
Ryan Castaldi for the hybrid lead/rhythm duality playing, and his name slips me now, but I love Volbeat’s simplistic yet effective riff writing, so I would say that’s a side influence.
    Third order:
Lucas Mann, Van Halen, and Rob Scallon

1- Syn, Paul Gilbert, Dimebag Darrel, John Petrucci, Sarah Longfield, Slash
2- Brian May, Prince, BB King, Steve Vai, Hendrix, Nita Strauss, Carlos Santana (You should check him), James Hetfield -his amazing fast picking
3- Jimmy Page, Joe Satriani, Tom Petty, Matt Heaffy, Toni Iommi, John Mayer, Kirk Hammett
But Im also very influenced by other musicians no guitarrists or bands like Herbie Hancock, Sinatra, Steven Wilson, Nora Jones, Stratovarius, Snarkky Puppy, Duke Ellington (really, his melodys are amazing), Avantasia, Rhapsody, Louis Amstrong, Periphery, King Crimson, Yes, Animals as Leaders and some stuff like that.
Yeah, I know, there are very diferent styles, XD, but you really should listen to these artists or bands if you dont know them.

This is kind of difficult for me to put into a category like that, because for me I feel like all of my influences you hear regardless of their order. Except for some reason Marty Friedman. He is not an influence of mine at all. But I’ve had several people say that my playing sounds like his especially when I write. I guess I could also put Al Pitrelli in there. The only thing that you really hear of mine with him is my vibrato. I really strive for his Clarity and vibrato. And CC Deville.
Everybody else I would say is a first category influence because they are my influences for a reason. They would be Alex Skolnick, sinister gates, Dave Sabo and Scotti Hill, Slash, TERU, Yngwie Malmsteen, Jon Schaffer, Glenn Tipton and KK Downing.
Mia Coldheart too. I just love that girl so much.

I mean the best way to find my influences would be to listen and compare.
As for jak.. I definitely heard more then just syn in the guitar work for the song. Even the solo.. lots to take from there. You should be proud in me saying that cause it means that you definitely are developing your own sound and style. Which is essentially what everyone wants in the end right? Definitely going in the right direction!
