Is rocksmith a good thing or a bad thing? (discussion

I’ve always wondered is rocksmith better than a actual guitar teacher? my say on this matter is not really because a guitar teacher can see what your doing and help you perfect to make you comfortable. rocksmith for say is good but it teaches you only one way to learn. i actually play rocksmith and its alot of fun but i have always wondered about this. (Not looking for hate) just curious on what the school thinks.

I think the games make it fun to learn from what i have seen and heard on youtube. I think the games is the games forte looool

The game only seem useful when you want to learn songs but in general it does not seem particularly useful for training your musicality when improvising and stuff like that.

like you said i play it to learn songs and mess around in tone designer and session mode thats about it.

I think it’s good for beginners, and people who want to get right into it and start learning real songs. I found the interface with the guitar laggy, so it wouldn’t be very good once a player was developing real speed in their playing, but anything – ANYTHING – that motivates people to want to learn to play is a GREAT thing!

It’s a cool tool to learn the basics but it is no replacement for a good teacher. It is fun though and a cool way to learn new songs, I personally set the song to 100% and then practice sections in riff repeater, slowly raising the speed.
It also introduced me to some cool tunes I may not have otherwise listened to.
I have it on PS4 but bought it again recently on PC, mainly to set it up on my daughters laptop so she can use it in her room with her bass.

I’ve been playing rocksmith for about 4 years now and i think it’s great and can definitely help you. I think rocksmith is the easiest way to make a beginner keep playing cause the game adjusts to your playing skill so you never really get frustrated. The game can help you improve your playing, it has a lot of mini games that are basically exercises made fun, it also has a game that teaches you chords but i think a teacher can teach you that way better than rs (i had a guitar teacher and he taught me that way better than rs). Rs can also help you on your improvising becUse it has a backing track band that adjusts to you. The one thing that it doesn’t really teach you is music theory but all in all it’s a great game. I think the best thing to do would be have a teacher and also play rocksmith so you can learn a lot more.

I have it and love it. Although I’ve admittedly never pushed myself enough to even get to 100% on any of the songs. As someone else noted, it can be laggy sometimes and sometimes it says you don’t play notes you definitely do. The games are the best part for practicing strong changes and the like, I really enjoy that. The downside is that there isn’t someone physically watching you seeing what you’re doing wrong. But my currrnt teacher uses guitar pro and it’s the same basic thing. He uploads sheet music and you can break it up, slow it down and it helps to learn it. Then we play it in person.

Rocksmith is good to practice songs and to have fun. There is also Bat Country on the list of songs – it’s how I started listening to Avenged Sevenfold!
