Hey everyone, you’ll being seeing me make plenty of threads and interacting with all of you over time! For today’s question, what motivates you?

I’ll be the first to say that I struggle with being lazy. I know that if I simply wait for when I “feel”’like practicing or learning a lesson, then I probably never will. I’ve been trying to start actively trying to engage in learning and practicing regardless of my mood.

One of my ideas was to dedicate a day to guitar, maybe that’d spend practicing a lesson or starting a new one. It’s a start. So what motivates you all when you’re stuck in your head?

This is such a great thread to start. Because a lot of people lose of motivation and it's because they don't know what motivated them to begin with. I have to play music. I have too many things I want to say and too many things I feel and my heart and see in my mind and too many things I have gone through. What motivates me the most is life. So many times when life got hard there was one thing that stayed consistent and that was my guitar was always there for me. That and my best friend.

Really I have no Goals Set but since I started playing guitar I gained huge respect for all music with real Instruments. I guess I Play because I think it's awesome to be a guitarist and Jam to those Songs you Love. Also very recently, coming from a Metal Background, I started to get really motivated by wanting to learn the Blues.

That’s phenomenal and beautiful to hear. It’s been a while I remember chatting with you when the school first originally opened! I had shown you a video of me playing the first solo in critical acclaim! Music is something that most certainly keeps me alive, I listen to it when I’m happy, sad, and everything in between. I think If I find a way to incorporate that literal, heavy symbolic feeling that I feel and receive from my music into guitar, I’ll be well on my way. Syn was my main motivation, it certainly doesn’t hurt to have more than one. Thank you, just hearing that helps, it’s a start!

Wow, metal to blues, that sounds like a very cool opening. I definitely can stand with you on the real music thing. I guess I should just focus more and put in more time so I can begin to see the range of what I can do increase.

Same as Ids and Dominik. I just love playing guitar, feeling that I'm getting a little bit better at it everyday and learning new stuff about music, and that's enough to keep me motivated.
I’m gonna try to do the same now. Sad thing is, I still haven’t properly learned a full song and it’s been in an embarrassing amount of time.

Thing is. I never really knew and liked Blues. I Love Metal so a logical step was playing it on guitar. But never Had a Connection to Blues. But now with this Site I am improving, am given Lessons on Blues and even was challenged by Ids to Play a Blues Song. Also seeing John Mayer live Last year helped a Lot :p

I know that feeling haha. So you know what to do now: focus on learning a new song entirely till you can play it with the record as a backing track. It will help to pick up your guitar everyday, and you will feel much better about yourself.

I highly suggest this book. Game changer for ANY musician or artist.

Dude what the hell! I actually had a quote from this book up on my story a long time ago! It was something we read in one of my real estate classes!
One of the quotes went something like this... cDon't be a painter who never paint, an entrepreneur who never creates, and a writer who doesn't write. It's not actually writing that's the difficult part. It's sitting down to write."

I think I could go with some Metallica song. They’re usually pretty crazy with the whole down picking and what not but some songs are calmer. I’ll certainly be on the search and keep you updated. I have a list of potentials, I just need to actually look into them. At the moment fade to black is a potential but I’m not sure if I can hit the outro solo at the moment with where I am.

Why that quote speaks loudly and directly to my issue. Inspiration, inspiration.
