Neck sock question

I’ve never tried using one before, but do you guys think it’s “cheating” when it comes to muting? And does it really help?

It helps. For some reason, when I wrapped a sock around the neck of my old cheap guitar, strings started to sustain more.

Muting is fine depending on where you use it for. For example for really complicated tapping stuff it is almost needed for regular sweep8ng it is kinds cheating

Some of the MOST AMAZING guitar players I have ever heard use a neck wrap. I don’t believe anything is cheating. If you can make a cool sound come out of your instrument that you like and other people like (hopefully enough to buy tickets to see you), it’s all good. Eddie Van Halen played a solo with a power drill. Like the man said – it’s not a contest, it’s music. Make it however you can.
