Neck through vs bolt on necks

Waiting for a 2012 schecter avenger to come in the mail right now and its a bolt on neck. Personally im not really picky on this topic but i want to know what you guys think of neck throughs vs bolt ons?

Ive only ever owned Bolt on guitars but neck through seems to give better accesibilety for higher frets so i would like to have one with a neck through

Congrats on the guitar!
I own both and love both. Neck throughs will give you a little more sustain. Bolt on’s are great too though. They worked for Jimi, SRV, and countless others.

The one I own is a bolt on neck, and it works great for me. However, I do prefer neck through because it just feels smoother when playing higher frets, especially when sliding. I’ve personally never had a problem with bolt ons though

I’m with Kristen! I do prefer a “neck through” but I have a couple bolt ons also.. The only time the neck joint gets in my way is if I’m trying to do a crazy stretch around the higher frets.. More of a pain than a real problem though. The added thickness just kinda makes it a bit harder and somewhat uncomfortable

You can do amazing things with either. But yes, boat on provides more sustain. And…. it’s incredibly sexy compared to a bolt on. That the first thing I remember noticing when I got my first neck thru (it’s a Syn model!)

Update: i got my bolt on avenger, so far i feel like neck through gives you more access to the higher frets whereas bolt on feels like theres a clump of wood in the palm by your thumb. Maybe its just the guitar i own, but the small restriction isnt terrible

I regularly play on neck thru construction and can honestly say I don’t notice a difference as far as hand access unless I look for it. They both feel natural to me
