Hello everyone,
I desperately need help with my ear training.
I want to be able to transcribe songs all by myself in the future but i am still a ways off and i have no idea where to start off with my ear training. I can listen to songs using simple chords .
For example, I’ve been listening to Pieces by Sum 41 trying to figure out what chords were used and i had no idea. (turns out is was Dm, F and C, i caved in and checked a tab)
Besides recognizing and tabbing powerchords which i can manage, i’m hopeless and can’t figure out anything else with my ears.
So what tips could you give me to practice my ears, to help recognize chords, key signatures in songs and what scales are used in lead parts 🙂

Scales and key signature is really just theory. When I’moved having trouble figuring out an A7x song or playing over am A7x backingtrack and having trouble with it I just go Dm because A7x usually is. With ear training starting with recognizing intervals is the best way to start! Just start doing intervals and recognize with recognizing whether the second note is higher or lower.
Hope this helps!

Try out musictheory.net
It’s been awhile since I used, but last I checked, the site has exercises for ear training. You hear a chord and have to choose which type, or hear a note and relate it to tonic, or hear a scale and choose which type.
I’m sure this could be a big help!

This is really awesome for you to delve into this! Ear training kind of goes hand-in-hand with theory (like Ids mentioned). You probably can figure out chords well because that’s what you’re use to the most. I would give an answer, but I think my answer is going to be best shown by the master himself, Rick Beato.
This guy literally is THE MAN for ear training. If this is something you want to do, I suggest watching and working on his online videos. Here’s one to help get you started!
The more you know theory like intervals, scales and stuff, the easier it will be. Keep us in the know!!
