If I take, for example, the G major chord family(GM,Am,Bm,CM,DM,Em and F# dim) in order to know the E minor chord family i have to figure out the relative minors and major of the G major chord family?
The chord family of E minor is Exactly the same as G major. At least when you consider natural minor/major. The only thing you need to know is that E is the relative minor of G. This counts for all keys.
Yeah like ids said it’s the same exact chords in a key’s relative minor as it is in the major. Technically what you are doing for e minor is taking g major scale and starting on the 6th degree, which is e, you continue to use the chords in the key of g major and it turns it into e minor. This goes for any key take the 6th degree of major scale and that will be your relative minor
