My guitar has a floyd locked in drop d and I really enjoy playing in that tuning, but I feel like I should be in standard so that I can properly learn the caged system and different scales.
Most definitely! I remember watching a video with Syn and Hector. He said that believe it or not, even though most of the songs are in drop D he hardly ever practices in drop D. I think it’s good to do both, but you lose out on a lot of theory concepts for chord structure like the caged system that you’re talking about. I think drop D tuning should be a skill, but not the way you base your playing on
Yeah I second Jak. When I started learning I was mostly playing in drop d because i was just practicing avenged song. Then I got other guitars and well one was obviously in standard tuning and I got much more into theory. Also almost if not all of the exercise here are in standard tunings. there are ways to have a guitar with a floyd rose switch from drop d to standard in a second like the d-tuna. Also, Jak, do you have a link to that video?
