Hi.
I’m having a problem with my pick: I find it too short!
I hold my pick as Pope Gates said to hold, but there’s not much left over as much as I wanted to play.
it is 3 cm high and 0.73 mm thick.
Should I get used to it or pick up some bigger pick? suggestions of picks are welcome.
Are there picks more than 3 cm high?
thank you!

You’ll want to choose a guitar pick that you feel comfortable with. There are so many different kinds out there that I suggest you try a few different ones and see which one you like best.
I personally use the Dunlop Gator Grips 2.0 as I like the thickness and the non-flexibility of them. They just feel comfortable in my hand.
I recently bough the Ernie Ball Prodigy Guitar Picks 2.0 and have been working with those a bit. They are a bit more pointed than the Gator Grips, which can help with fast picking.

I dont hold the pick like syn or pg. I also know I dont use the same picks as them. Use what feels best for you. How you hold the pick is probably gonna change depending on what you play anyways so I wouldn’t push too hard to hold it like them. although.. jak did change the way she held hers and made vast improvements for her.
So yeah in the end it all comes down to preference.

While there are exceptions, there are really just two primary sizes of pick – the size you have, and the smaller (yes, smaller) Jazz picks that many of us prefer.
The exact way Papa shows is one of many ways, like Calvin says. I would encourage you to try to get used to a standard-size pick, rather than going for something bigger that may be difficult or expensive to find replacements for.
Personally, I could never hold it the way he does. I like to “choke up” on the pick a lot, and the Dunlop Jazz III size is perfect for me, even though I have big hands.

before holding the pick in the manner of Pope Gates, I did not feel comfortable. with his way I feel comfortable.
I think everything at first generates a strangeness until you get accustomed.
in the videos, it seems even that the picks of the syn are bigger than the “normal” ones.
    Thanks for the answers!

Just try to hold the pick a little higher if you have problem with it. I would say that you.mostly have to get used to it but sometimes it does come in handy to move the way you’re holding your pick around a little bit. Generally picks come in the regular size you probably have and in the size of the Jazz licks Dunlop does. There aren’t really any real difference in sizes.
I would try to get used to the way PG teaches to hold the pick and if that is taking really long(like say 3 months or so) just hold your pick in a way that feels comfortable to you(I mean come on have you seen how Marty Friedman holds his pick)
