Software recommendation

Hey guys. I want to get into recording but don’t really want to spend the money as of now because who knows if I’ll keep continue to use a program. Does anyone know of any free programs similar to GarageBand or reaper?

I haven’t used it personally.. But a buddy of mine raves about “Ableton”. I did a quick search also

Reaper’s trial version is full-featured and I don’t think it time-bombs. I paid for it not because of nag screens or digital sound inserts, but because it was a great product at a reasonable price and it was worth it. If you’re poor, you can just use it until you can afford it.

I saw that reaper had a free trial. I’ve been trying it out for a couple hours and I’m already sold.
