Soo, it's been a week with me taking a shot at this riff (as challenged by @[4668:@Alicia Willis] :D). I've been in New Delhi from the past 4 days but I brought my guitar along. It's been inconsistent practicing, but I'm happy how this is going. A few more hours into it and it should be smooth haha
Alright so about f*cking time my semester ended xD It's like 10am here, I'll finally go to bed, but I really wanted to get this one week challenge started that I promised @[4668:@Alicia Willis] that I'll take part in. So here's day 1 of learning Dear God's main riff! I just tried to get in the chords real quick and hopefully, the notes are alright. See you in a week.
So I was watching The Game Awards a few hours ago and the Call of Duty clip reminded me of this song. This riff is crazy and I really enjoy playing it, especially the vibrato and palm meeting; groovy songs are great stress busters imo xD. The notes I'm playing are from what I remember and what sounds right, just having fun. Yeah, don't forget to have fun! haha
So as a complete beginner I used to get intimidated by Syn and other musicians when they switched between strumming and string-skipping arpeggios over chord progressions. And after a decent amount of time, I could play these string skipping sections but they never felt natural to me. As Syn mentions in lesson 44 (string skipping): The only way to get….If you don’t use it, you lose it!”. So at first, I had to sorta force this style into my playing but later it’s funny that it actually became my go-to. For the alternate picking, Syn mentions in lesson 40, “Apply this to your pentatonics, ...and repeat.” and that has helped me with the fluidity even outside of the metal scene. Lastly, I can’t stress enough how important metronome practice for alternate picking has been for me when it came to increasing speed and fluidity gradually. Syn always mentions this (like in lesson 40) along with emphasizing the use of jam tracks! (couldn't quote him because of the word limit :3)
I thought I'll take @[3987:@Dominik Gräber] 's suggestion and go back to this first section. Started slow, fixed some bends and vibratos! feels smoother to me from the first video =) Let me know what you think!
Alright so here is my progress on this solo till now (my fever is finally gone :))). I feel really saturated as I've been doing this for hours now and can't really tell the difference in tempo anymore (sorry xD) I'm sure it's off at places, (it was okay a few hours ago, should've recorded then). As of now, I 'sorta know' the notes and am playing at 115BPM (the song is 138). Let me know what you think!
day 1 of learning this solo, will keep posting the progress =) they are both first takes and def have mistakes, criticism is welcome! (hi pls help) Also, I use my phone as a metronome but since I was recording with that, it isn't in the vid xD
So far away interlude (memorial)
Here's a little memorial video I made on 28th Dec for Jimmy :')
I'm not really good at speeding licks up in a small amount of time. When I was finally up to speed, it sounded just about 'Okay' and I really wanted to go for the best I could. So here's my attempt after hours of perfecting it and fuckin' around with my amp to get this tone without any pedals xD
NIGHTMARE Guitar Solo (Collab)
This solo took me a looonngggg ass time to learn properly since it was the first with these techniques. All feedback is appreciated =) Both of us played them separately and just switched on camera part by part.
10 mins into learning this lick, just getting the basic things in line. Love this part! All feedback is appreciated =)
Found an old video from last year where I am making clean tones for buried alive (if I remember correctly). All feedback is appreciated! =)

Nightmare Solo Tone check!
All feedback is appreciated! =) Here's another one of my nightmare solo isolated tracks! Made this one to test the tone for a cover.
Bohemian Rhapsody Guitar SOLO
All feedback is appreciated! =) Bohemian Rhapsody's guitar solo written by Brian May of Queen. Really worked hard on this video! Played on a Schecter Demon 6 FR.
The basic idea is to play leads on clean tones once you've got a hang of them to see if there are any parts where you sound a bit sluggish or there's buzzing sound somewhere; as that's hard to notice with distortion. Doing so makes your playing more defined when you switch back to Overdrive.
Nightmare Solo Trem section
Any feedback is appreciated! =) My isolated track for the tremolo picking section!
