THE REALITY OF MY SURROUNDINGS by Fishbone

Love when I get handed great new bands. Never heard of these dudes before today. Favorites: Fight The Youth: Insane groove, leading tone vox harmony into the chorus makes the song for me. Ridiculous solo. So many Millions: I mean what the fuck, its like this skulky verse/chorus into smooth...

    Synyster Gates Ideal Amp Settings

It depends on what era we are talking about: WTF and CoE both have spanky, mid rangy high gain tones. Legend has it WTF was Mesa Boogie Dual Rectos. CoE was Bogner Uberschalls with ubercab. White album, no idea but I would guess still continuing the Uberschall trend. Nightmare I think I read...

    Planning practice

Just force yourself to play for at least X amount of time. For me it’s 15 minutes, if I’m getting somewhere it usually gets longer. But honestly, 15 minutes ain’t shit in the grand scheme of things at it makes a noticeable difference.

Does anyone know how to record guitar harmonies like Syn?

It’s kind of a complicated answer.. the best solution is to play around with it but as a rule: write a melody ( say, bat country harmonized bit) and harmonize a 3rd above that melody. Take into account what key you are in and try your best to compliment what chords you’re playing over ( that is...

What settings do you put your amp on?

It depends man, every amp sounds different. Every guitar sounds different. Every PERSON sounds different. Play around with it until you find something you like, or sounds close to a goal tone of yours.

Post stuff you want to learn

“I really wanna see some extended range stuff. I’ve recently got into guys like periphery and stuff and I’d love to see syn’s take on that.” That’s a realm of progressive music, it gets pretty unconventional and advanced.. I’d recommend listening to bands like Meshuggah, Veil of Maya, Haunted...

    Scale memorization

Star with the basics, Major, minor, melodic minor, harmonic minor, pentatonic scales. Learn them all the way up the next and KNOW WHAT THE TONES ARE! I.E. know where the tonic(I) is wherever you’re playing. Knowing just that you will have no problem thinking modally, or learning any weird...

Post stuff you want to learn

I would love to see more information/lessons on how to train your ear and something on Triads. For mobile: I used an app called Ear Training by Musicopoulos. Really starts you from the ground up, makes it super simple. As far as theory/triads there an app called Tenuto that is just golden. Both...

Post stuff you want to learn

I have a feeling like we’ll be getting a gypsy jazz lesson from the masters sooner rather than later 🙂 This is a wicked resource for learning the JM keep time slappy thingy. Took me about a month of 15 minutes or so a day of practice. Play:Stop this train or Who says to practice.
