Hey from the UK! Give me your motivation ideas!

I stay motivated by finding interest and inspiration into what I see my favorite guitarists doing (Slash, Syn, Jimi Hendrix, Kfir Ochaion, David Gilmour, Jimmy Page, etc list goes on and on). Here are my two favorite live guitar improvisations. I find that finding/watching these gives me a...

    Marshall CODE 25 Users

OMG ED! I never thought of that! Man, I can be such a noob sometimes! I've just always had the effects loop on amps and never thought of running the pedals before the amp, I feel so silly lol. Thx so much Ed you're the man!

    Marshall CODE 25 Users

Hey Synners! I’ve got a Marshall Code 25 watt amp and I was wondering if you could add pedals while on clean channels. I’m asking this because this is the only Marshall amp I own currently and I wanted to add some effects to that genuine Marshall tone. I don’t see an effects in and out but there...

    New Guitar!

Nice guitar! Nothing's better than finally getting that new guitar you've been waiting for! Now that you've got a full-sized acoustic, it will be so much more practical to play. As for where to start, I recommend that you have fun for a bit until the "new guitar smell" wears off, and then I'd...

    Life

Thanks so much for the help! It really takes time to get comfortable in such a stressful environment and it always helps to have someone talk you through things like this knowing you’re not alone. Glad that I can talk to some pros that have already gone through what I am right now. Again, best...

technique for clear and clean execution

I respectfully disagree. In many different bands and even with professional musicians, fret wraps are really just a tool, not a crutch. I like to think of it like a pick or a tremolo bar. You don’t need a pick to actually play the guitar, but it makes everything much easier in terms of playing...

    Life

Thanks for the post Ian! It’s great to be able to have somebody to talk to over the recent playing in my life. Recently I joined as a lead guitarist in a visual arts group and I’ve had a lot of responsibility as it comes to my part in the whole thing. I have around 3 different solos altogether...

    Beginner Sus4 over major chord

Hey BRΩFΩRCE! Thanks for your post, I love answering questions like this. So, as a little bit of backstory, sus chords or "suspended" chords are chords in which the third is omitted, making it so that the chord is not major or minor and makes it difficult to distinguish between the two types. If...

    Best Coordination Exercise

My pleasure, I'm so glad I could be of any help! I love online communities like this where we can all discuss and share such diverse ways of thinking. Admittedly, I also until recently had the same habits and have broke them over the course of the last 2-3 years. I have to say, the results speak...

    Best Coordination Exercise

I improve it mainly by using scales (you’ve gotta keep up practice to make sure coordination doesn’t get sloppy). It’s important for your hand to know exactly where each string is and, trust me, in time it will be as normal as brushing your teeth. What I do for my daily routine when warming up...

Captain Ed's AOTM February 2022: Pink Floyd - The Wall

Ed Seith understands the finer things in the universe. For me, “The Wall” speaks on evolutionary brilliance, where there isn’t just meaning lyrical wise, but also from a composer POV. And you can’t talk about The Wall without talking about possibly the most influential song on the album. When I...

    Guitar String Gauge

Thanks for all your advice and knowledge! Wish I could’ve had you as a teacher 👍

    Chair Suggestions.

I personally use a chair with collapsible arms so that when I'm editing my recordings I have arm rests and when I'm playing I don't have anything in the way. You can generally just buy guitar stools that promote better posture, but I try to go with one that's more practical with recording.

    Guitar String Gauge

When I first began guitar, I found out what string gauge used by SynGates at that was my first gauge. Ever since, I've only ever used 10-52s and I've never had any issues, other than that they're a little more expensive. In my opinion, the warped neck is just the average amount of truss rod...

    BeginnerQuestion

Think of playing guitar as being a baby. First, you have to learn the basics and understand what you're doing before anything else. Then, just like a small child, you need to learn from the example of other musicians and artists around you in order to learn what is "right and wrong". When you...

technique for clear and clean execution

There are usually two main things you can do to mute your strings and that is either palm muting or fret wraps (which is generally only used for rapid muting rather than over time). From what I understand, you have a high amount of gain that's causing a lot of feedback from your amp or guitar...

Strange sound when playing 2 notes

Sounds like the issue that you’re having has everything to do with intonation. Over time, or when changing strings, the length of the string going from the saddle to the nut can be too long or short, here’s was you do: 1: tune each string to standard tuning and then go to the twelfth fret of...
