Strings Cutting Into Fingers On One Guitar But Not Others

If not the above, it could be the size or height of the frets. On one of my guitars especially, I definitely feel that difference.

    Syn Interviews

That outdoor one, looks like someone snuck out of the quarantine house for a break. Still distancing proper, of course, but always good to get out. I'd seen the 1:1 a couple days ago. I hadn't seen the one with Papa Roach. Gonna watch that now. Thanks. Also - anyone notice that unlike everyone...

What are you currently listening to?

In addition to the new Trivium (which slays), I've also been listening to a playlist put out by James Gunn (writer/director of Guardians of the Galaxy 1/2). It's called "Meredith Quill's Complete Awesome Mix" and it includes all the songs he's used in the GotG films, as well as a curated list of...

Concerns about my Syn Custom S

It's sounding like this is the abused puppy. It could certainly wind up being amazing, but it's gonna take a lot of love and patience to get it there.

Concerns about my Syn Custom S

The Sustainiac uses a 9v battery, in a compartment on the back. Replace that, and see if it makes a difference, then re-evaluate the rest. You may need to either pull the back cover and see if someone tweaked the wiring or have a competent tech take a look at it. Even if the wiring needs to be...

I may wind up digging into some of it then. I'm realizing that a lot of the really heavier stuff I like to listen to, I really don't enjoy playing as much anymore, so that may be part of why I never even looked into TSatS at all. The most recent Trivium track I jam to is Through Blood and Dirt...

    Playing with backing tracks

I bought Amazing Slow-Downer, which is like $50, and I'll stand by it, but there are a lot of free alternatives that I wish I'd known about before I bought it.

I'll be honest, listening to the few advance tracks quietly in my office while I worked, nothing grabbed me at all. It felt lifeless and missing something. I put it on for my bike ride yesterday, loud in the phones, and man, that made all the difference. It doesn't sound a whole lot different...

    Hellwin Amp

If a Hellwin sold for $500 it either didn't work or was a knockoff. Others are far more knowledgeable, but I don't think there was more than one Hellwin model - it was or it wasn't, and they've been discontinued, so when you find one, they're pricey. I'm sure Syn and Papa have a bunker full of...

    RiffChallenge Reloaded

I've heard both versions before, but never "listened to learn." It's always just been on in the car or something. Good stuff. Looking forward to diving in! But first, a few hours of cycling after the morning coffee.

    RiffChallenge Reloaded

Fuck it. Hit me but don't hurt me. I'd actually love a reason to try out some John Mayer.

    Floyd Rose problem

Sometimes that happens. If it happens in the same spot repeatedly, you may need to see a tech to lightly file that spot on the saddle. Unfortunately, no way to know until then.

Drop D on a floating trem

No, you don't need to adjust anything for that little a difference. However, you do need to retune the whole guitar. I don't know that you have a stability problem as much as not realizing that tuning one string a whole step differently upsets the balance and requires retuning the whole guitar...

    Technical issues...

A string is just a string. The more you play, the more you get comfortable changing them out on a schedule and finding your own secrets for managing the pitfalls of Floyd. When I was gigging and practicing heavily with a band, I'd change them all weekly. I do it a lot less frequently now, but I...

    Technical issues...

Okay, so the Floyd Rose has two main parts - the bridge part with the fine-tuners you circled in your first picture, and the locking nut, which is up at the "zero fret." The nut has three pads on it that are each secured with an allen (hex) screw. Each pad holds two strings firmly in place and...

He is using Tortex .73s since, I believe 2014. He switched to those and away from the 2.0mm when he started diving into gypsy jazz.

    Master of puppets

Strict 8th notes at 210BPM all downpicked is supremely challenging. I've long since given up on getting anywhere close to playing it properly at speed, but I'm an old man. It does notch just fine into a metronome at 4/4. You just have to slow it down enough until it makes sense and you feel it...

    Newbie here!

Welcome! To add to the perspective - you need to walk before you run. Don't neglect or minimize learning rhythm guitar - on acoustic and electric. The solo gets the love, but if it's not attached to a great song performed well, only guitar players will care.

The Wisdom of Steve Vai - Finding Yourself on the Guitar

This was transcribed by Ultimate Guitar from a livestream Q&A session Steve did a couple days ago. Hello from NY, advice for someone who feels like they don't fit or sound similar to today's guitarists, shredders...? Steve: "Congratulations! I don't think it's necessary to feel like all the...

    New guitar?

This is $830 US, so maybe €775? There are several other semi-hollows in that range, too. The Zach Meyers (Shinedown) model is very nice, even though I don't care for the band. Zach shows up in the PRS forums all the time too - actually a nice guy...
