    Some new Schecters for 2020

Looks like they're keeping a close eye on boutique builders like Kiesel, with the carbon fiber rods, the paint schemes, the "metal Tele" and the multiscale. Good - they're keeping up with the times. Nice.

    Music theory lessons feedback

I'm way behind because of holiday stuff, but I've enjoyed the 4-5 so far and I am eager to devour them. Thank you muchly.

To all those old dogs out there - how was it when you started out?

To be fair, what he was offering was the best thing at the time for someone with no metal guitar players in town and no "network" of musician friends, but I wanted something that would hold my hand and show me, and that wasn't it.

To all those old dogs out there - how was it when you started out?

Okay, so it was 1984 or 1985. It really is hard to remember, to be honest. I was a teenager just starting high school. I had a small record collection - not because it was cool or because neckbeards pretended they knew about sonic purity, but because they were the only logical choice, at least...

Best metal guitarists of the year?

I think heroes is the one I heard.

To all those old dogs out there - how was it when you started out?

It was a long time ago in my mind, and a very different time for EVERYTHING, but I have to run today. I will stop back and comment on learning guitar in 1984 tonight.

Best metal guitarists of the year?

Sure. I definitely like some. Helloween is spotty, but mostly good. GammaRay was awesome. Not too big on most others, but I did recently hear the latest Sabaton. I really wanted to hate it, but I couldn't. It's fuckin cornball cheese in the extreme, but it's catchy as hell.

Best metal guitarists of the year?

I should say they peaked from a GUITAR perspective on Vol 3. As I said, I do like a lot of the Knot from across their career, but I don't look at it as "guitar music." From your comments, I don't think you do either. That's not a BAD THING - Billy Joel is GOD and he's a piano player.

Best metal guitarists of the year?

Mick and Jim are certainly great players, but I feel like they peaked on Volume 3: The Subliminal Verses. Most of what they do since is... Different. Which, I suppose is good, but I just really don't consider Slipknot to be a "guitar band," outside of Vol 3. Most of what I find appealing in...

The Phenomenon that is Ghost Live

We saw them at a smaller venue, but it was an old theater, with seats and everything. I prefer standing for small club shows, but it worked for Ghost, being so theatrical. The other time was opening for Maiden, which was not a small show :-).

The Phenomenon that is Ghost Live

The crew act at the behest of the band, who came across as a bunch of primadonnas, too - crew made sure every one from every other band was GONE from the whole back/side stage area before they'd come out. They were definitely NOT a band of that kind of stature.

The Phenomenon that is Ghost Live

Painkiller is a great song, and a strong album, but it's 30 years old, and I wouldn't put it up against Number of the Beast, Powerslave, or Seventh Son. They did hit a rut after the excellent Brave New World in 2000, but 2015's Book of Souls was truly excellent. But we could have been having...

The Phenomenon that is Ghost Live

Maiden. I definitely dig the Priest and they're great live, but even with the darkness of the Bayley era, Maiden are, to me, more consistently solid album to album, and live, just... wow. Saw them again a few months ago, and they were at their best, perhaps ever, and I've seen every era except...

The Phenomenon that is Ghost Live

Let's just say their road crew planted their stands and keyboards and pedalboards and shit right at the front line, where they would be for THEIR set, and we were told explicitly and clearly if we touched ANY of it during our set, our power and lights would be cut and we'd be thrown out without...

The Phenomenon that is Ghost Live

My band opened for BOC in the 90s once. We realized then that BOC stood for "Bitter Old Cocksuckers."

The Phenomenon that is Ghost Live

Maiden is on another level, for sure, but love seeing Ghost live. Great live band! Thanks for sharing!

    Top Albums of 2019

I wanted to add Reverrence, but I looked it up and saw 2018. I didn't discover that till this year, either. Shogun slays ANY year.
