    How to play letgato

@jak I always assume people are doing that. Maybe I shouldn’t…

    How to play letgato

Start slow. No. Slower. Not yet. SLOWER. Make sure you’re hammering or pulling off EVERY SINGLE NOTE in time with your metronome. This will be painful at first, and you will think it’s a waste very quickly, because part of your brain will be saying “I can go faster than this ‘most of the...

    Need advice

Just try to get some axe time every day – 10-15 minutes will be better than a 2 hour marathon every Saturday. But take those, if you can, as well. 🙂

    Need advice

Congratulations! My last one was 12 years ago, but I still think maybe I can help. Ids is right about one, thing – babies sleep a LOT. It’s just a matter of you and your wife/partner accepting that your lives will be controlled and ordered by the new infant’s schedule and sleep patterns for at...

Metronome: Is It Doing You More Harm Than Good?

For learning rhythms and SONGS, I find that my old tried and true is still my best friend. Play along to the RECORDING, not a metronome. What makes that easier now is programs like Amazing Slow Downer, YouTube functionality, Audacity, etc, that can slow down a song without affecting the pitch...

    Tremolo Picking Tips

I had to throw an axe over my shoulder and check, and most of the time, it’s whole forearm, but sometimes (especially if I’m tremolo picking chords, like an Iron Maiden Ending ™) I go wrist. I cannot imagine only finger movements being efficient. That’s some next level wizardry I don’t have the...

    I need help with sweeping

Start with the lessons, then move into Syn’s Etudes on sweeping. Take them REALLY SLOW. I’ve been playing 35 years and never really did sweeping PROPERLY. I’ve been working on Etude #1 for a couple of months to make sure I’m getting everything as clean and right as I can. Now, I say a couple of...

What are you currently listening to?

Listened to Dream Theater’s “Awake” and “The Astonishing” back to back to see if I could figure out why they’re not as good as they used to be. The only things I can come up with: 1. Kevin Moore had some kind of magic sauce that turned tons of awesome riffs and mathematical arrangements into...

Fret hand wrist pain (de quervain's tenosynovitis)

Hey Kent – AARP will be knocking on my mailbox in a few years. I’ve never had de Quervains’s, but I did battle some carpal tunnel some years ago, and unfortunately it came down to rest and the brace. Being no longer bulletproof, shit like “healing” takes longer for us. It sucks, but thankfully...

Where should I sit at the A7X concert

@dylan, don’t get the wrong idea. MOST people in a pit are there to have a good time and blow off some steam. If you fall down, five hands will reach out to help you up, with a big smile at the other end. It’s that ONE GUY or so that ruins it for everyone who enjoys the mosh. Watch out for that...

Where should I sit at the A7X concert

@jak, it’s outdoors. In Phoenix. In AUGUST. What could go wrong? @syn – lots of WATER, not booze! Stay hydrated!

Where should I sit at the A7X concert

I will be at that show – very exciting for you! I would recommend SEATING for you, as opposed to GA/pit. Anytime I get GA/pit, I wind up having to keep my daughter (now 24) or wife (ahem, older than that) from getting accidentally slammed and knocked down. You’ll have a much more enjoyable...

How This Small Change Gives BIG Improvment In Your Playing (Please Read!) :)

Just today, I watched a video interview with Paul Gilbert and he discusses this in depth. He refers to EVH always being “vibrato-ready” no matter where he lands, and how important that is. It’s an hour long, but an hour with Paul Gilbert flies by. You can always get a sense of his enthusiasm...

Equipment care with the Synyster Custom

Yeah, you can use that on any guitar finish. I’ve used it on my Les Paul and my PRS which are both mahogany backs with maple tops.

Not a Syn model, but a nice Schecter Omen 6 for sale

He sold it already. He was asking $600 US plus shipping, which is a steal.

Not a Syn model, but a nice Schecter Omen 6 for sale

My bud Dane Sonnier from the Galactic Cowboys is selling this axe. Lightly used, on their reunion album recently and in the video for the lone single from it, Internal Masquerade. And the price is nice. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1855488501422394/ In action:

    Guitar Picks

Medium-thickness picks seem to offer the most general diversity and flexibility. Thin picks are trash, and should only be used really for getting percussive sounds on recordings from acoustic guitars (think “baseball card in the spokes” kind of sound). Heavy picks are awesome, but without a LOT...

Synyster Gates School App Being Made?

@jak, I do not know, but it seems unlikely that it would make a difference. Apps are still moving data across the internet, and the internet doesn’t really notice or care if, for instance, Facebook is being loaded in a browser or in the Facebook app.

Synyster Gates School App Being Made?

He did mention some time ago (before touring interfered) that an app was in the works. Long downtime on the site seems to coincide with major changes (last one before yesterday was for the store), so it’s possible they were standing up the backend changes so they could do some front-end testing...

    Help with schecter demon 6

Take it into a shop for a setup. That would be about $50 US. If it needs fretwork, they’ll tell you. Otherwise, they’ll adjust bridge height and truss rod as necessary.
