    Help with schecter demon 6

To add to Noah’s excellent answer, look at where the neck meets the body. You say that the issue is at the 15th fret. On many guitars, that’s right around where the neck meets the body. If that’s the case, you may need to raise the bridge slightly. Typically a truss rod adjustment would be if...

what has been your worst live performance?

Had a gig on like a Wednesday night in northern New Jersey in the mid 90s. At the time, I was an industrial glazier (glass work), so I got cut a lot. This day, I’d gotten what didn’t seem like all that bad a cut on my right thumb. I bought “liquid skin” and Crazy Glue to keep it together for the...

Student Project Is Done! Happy Birthday, Syn!

You know, I only realized last night where the amp name, “Hellwin” came from. Hellwin is a play on his middle name, Elwin. Clever. As a guy who was brought up in a house with the same name as my father, I wonder if “Hellwin” was a nickname for Syn before Syn was the nickname.

    Happy Birthday Syn

Happy birthday, Syn. You’ve been key in me finding my way back to loving the guitar, and for that I can’t thank you enough. This school, this community, is just icing on the cake, and I hope I’ve helped some people.

How accurate is Songsterr for tabs?

If you can clearly see what the ACTUAL ARTIST is doing, that will ALWAYS be more accurate. Tabs are only as good as the person creating them. Some are amazing, some make you wonder if the person transcribing can actually hear things. If the tab seems wrong, it very well might be. In the case of...

    Remove floyd rose locking nut

Removing the locking nut only reduces tuning stability. It’s not a contributing factor when changing tunings. At all. Changing tunings is changing the overall tension on the top side of the bridge – the springs on the bottom WILL compensate. Tremsetter works like a restaurant kitchen door. It’s...

    Help Loose Floyd Rose Collar

The springs keep your BRIDGE in place. The bar is screwed into the bridge. On that model, if the springs are adjusted correctly, then the flat plat the bar screws into, when viewed from the side, is parallel to the strings (or to the top of the guitar, if that is flat and not an arch-top – the...

Loose wrists and how it is turning me into the guitarist I don’t want to be

Yeah, Papa said what I would have said – you don’t need to keep the wrist loose ALL the time – more techniques add to your trick bag – you don’t need to swap one for the other.

    Remove floyd rose locking nut

In order to use that without going out of tune, you need a Tremsetter (zero-stop mod) or block it to dive only.

    Help Loose Floyd Rose Collar

Hmm. Nothing to do with the bar itself or how it attaches to the bridge should affect tuning at all. The tuning is all tied to the pivot points (bridge mount screws and knife edges at both outside edges of the bridge) and the counter-tension springs in the back cavity of the guitar. Pictures...

How to determine if Action is too high or low on my guitar

    Trust your friendly neighborhood @Noah.

    Singing and Guitar

I only sing backups, @rowan, but what you’ve put down is pretty much how it’s done. Learn one, then the other, find focal points to stay synced, and practice.

Am I being too picky about Picks?

This is normal. Picks wear out. How fast depends on the material they’re made of. Real or imitation tortoise shell lasts the longest, without getting into rocks and steel and shit. Red Bear Trading handmakes some of these, but they’re not cheap and you WAIT for them. I got mine with “speed...

Is it even possible to do a whole step bend on the D string?

Practical and necessary. I’ll pull the low E 1-1/2 steps sharp sometimes. But there’s a trick to it. Use the meat of your palm against the fretboard as leverage. That way, it’s just like you’re trying to squeeze something. Don’t try to do it with just one finger, at least not at first. Minimum...

The Rev vs. Joey Jordison (former slipknot drummer)

Both in their prime would be fun to watch. I’d say Jordison is probably faster, but Rev more technical and much more consistent.

    Practicing slow

Find the positions that are comfortable for YOU and try to be consistent about them. Noah’s advice is SPOT ON, and being painfully aware of every detail is actually what you want, even though it seems boring and counter-intuitive. I constantly have to re-evaluate my exercises and slow down the...

    Guitar Solos

If you think HTTK is easy, you’re either an amazing guitar player or you’re not playing it correctly.

    alternate picking pivot point

Not sure what you mean by “underneath the strings?” For me, the movement is a mix of wrist and elbow, but that may not work for you. I typically keep my three non-pick-holding fingers fanned out so they offer some additional muting of other strings.
