I’m practicing legato at the moment, and my hand is a bit stubborn with the bigger stretches.
For example if I play fret 5h7h9 I use my ring finger for the middle fret. Would it be better to use my middle finger instead?
I know it doesn’t really matter, anyway is fine as long as it doesn’t cause injuries. But I’d like to know some opinions on this.

Tried to Play legato Stretch Like this recently too! No Idea how to pull it Off smoothly😂
As for Finger positions I am pretty sure there is no "right way" to do it, whatever feels better for you.

I’m trying to get it to sound smoothly but legato and I just don’t go together. 😂
I suppose the best position varies on the lick i’m playing.

100% Ring finger for me. Middle finger is really uncomfortable and makes me bend my wrist in a weird way.

Generally speaking it is is a finger per fret so 5th fret pointing finger, 6th fret middle finger, 7th fret middle finger, 8th fret pinky. In this case you just kinda have to stretch your pinky a bit further but that is kinda my rule of thumb I generally use.

It's interesting to hear peoples opinions on this one! Play what's comfortable, but give the 2nd finger a try too. With the pattern you have given I'd use middle finger for it. However if the pattern was say 7h10h12 I'd 100% use my 3rd! Try some chromatic legato exercises! They are great for stretching too. (5h6h7h8 for example)

5-7-9 is about as big a stretch as my miserable sausage fingers can manage, and I do that 1-2-4. I can't get the same stretch between 3-4 that I can between 1-2, but honestly, I try to avoid stretches like that down low on the fretboard because they're just downright uncomfortable to me, even with proper stretching.

Same, 1st, third and fourth for me. My second finger can't really play fast when stretched.
