Free tabbing sites

How sad is it that you have to pay to use tabbing sites these days. I literally was looking for a starting point on some songs to learn.. and every single one was forcing me to subscribe tonuse the sites. I mean all i wanted was to use the tabs as a starting point to figure out the scales used so i could go from there. But i guess thats asking too much these days. Does anyone know any free sites that wont try to force me into paying 10 dollars a month?

Songsterr is my favorite because I can judge how the tab sounds without playing it myself. Great way to make sure you are playing the right tuning and tabs. But I agree. It’s getting ridiculous. I kind of wish syn would write down the tabs he uses with Avenged because most tabs I find are inaccurate.

Well, I might be the odd one out here, but to be honest there is a catch-22 about paying for guitar sites with tabs. A lot of people got on to me and begged me to do the full hail to the king tutorial for the solo. It took so much of my time it’s not even funny. And that was just to teach it let alone tab it out. It took roughly 9 hours of video filming because I kept rambling and had to cut a lot of stuff out. Then it was editing and piecing it all together and uploading stuff and making sure you went into thorough detail. I attempted to tab out the solo for somebody. And without even getting halfway through it I was on 3 hours of working it out. That’s almost 12 hours of work that you’re not being paid to do because somebody else asked you to do it. I did all of that for free without asking a dime. Now on the other hand, there are copy right things that a lot of these tabbing artists are getting in trouble for. I hate to say it, but people need to start supporting people that do work. I don’t want to come off rude. But imagine if someone asked you to tab out a song for them and it took 12 hours to do. I had over 300 people on Instagram and on the school asking me to do the full hail to the king tutorial. And that solo Tutorial has had less than 50 views on it. So I feel like I did all that work for nothing. It takes a lot of time for people to put this kind of stuff together and I believe that people should be compensated fairly for their work. It’s sad but it’s true in my humble opinion. There are plenty of free sources so accessible on the Internet, books, DVD’s and more. Even phone apps. Musicians have to try every single method possible to make any type of money for their work these days. It’s like when you go on to youtube channels for guitarist that have a bunch of free tutorials and lessons. And then you get people begging for more stuff and they don’t pay anything to that person. That person on that channel is working plain and simple. There were so many situations that I saw where a YouTube guitarist asked for $1 a month donation for access to over 500 lessons and people were complaining about it. Nobody truly realizes the effort it takes to put something like that together.

Honestly if you’re not willing to pay for something (nothing wrong with that by the way) you’re not in a position to be picky. That being said I think the available tabbing sites that are free are still more than decent (talking mainly about ultimate guitar and songsterr). Lastly, you learn much more if you figure out songs by ear rather than blindly following someone else’s interpretation.

I think Ultimate Guitar site has broke, because I just cannot open it! I don’t think Ultimate Guitar would charge to use the site purely because people pay for Guitar Pro. When I google a tab, Songster keeps popping up and its quite alright.
Maybe with some of the easier stuff train your ear a little bit and learn songs that way?

If you don’t want to pay for tabs, just use google search! it comes up with plenty of free tabs. But before you do, why not try to figure it out by ear first? It will probably be difficult as first but it does get easier! Being able to figure out songs by ear is an invaluable skill to have for so many reasons, it is something that all musicians should work on in my opinion

Kevin i did.. and all the sites have a paid option amd a free option. And no one uses the free one for tabs. Totally get what youre saying jak it just makes it hard to deceifer songs at the start especially if you yourself dont have the time to do it.

Ben i simply dont have the time like jak said it took her 12 hours or so. I might as well go back to just my own material in that case cause that would be all my jam time for the week or month.. working 10 hours a day plus to and from work.. time is tight. I wouldn’t have time to do anything else.

Just read through what you said Jak as I completely missed it. A lot of artists start to block their tabs getting used for copy right purposes which they are well in their right to do so. I do believe there should be a website where you pay monthly direct debit and professional tabs can be found. I mean years ago tabs could be found anywhere and everywhere but slowly over time they’ve been restricted. I think that may be why UG is down, who knows. Songster seem to be a reliable tab site Calvin, it even plays back the tab like guitar pro. But if you can, every now and again the most reliable source is a quality Hal Leonard book.
