No, I think every song that becomes popular is a good song because bad songs wouldn't become popular.

Of course a proper good song would have to stand the test of time(like the Beatles discography)
I explained why I think otherwise. Everybody has their opinion and that's fine.
I just think that most nowadays Radio stuff is pretty mindless. But wrong thread anyway.

Well, Drowning Pool's "Bodies" got played a ton on the radio, I'm glad you have finally admitted that you like that song, because according to that line of argument it must be good, because it was on the radio.

Oh yes, because every song on the radio is "good", because it's not like radio has never played anything that sucks, most definitely.

People listen to pop for the beat. Which is usually all the same tempo. It's the dance music. So honestly. Nothing really is good there.

My honest opinion on a good song.

Something that stands out so much.... everyone else copies you for the next year. Until it all sounds the same.. and the cycle repeats lol

Agreed. Pop is trash, if they want "beats", and I hate that term, go listern to John Bonham.

Oh man... is Halsey pop? But I just listen to the stripped versions of her songs. And Eminem has good songs but that's rap:unsure:
You should listen to EDEN - Fumes
EDEN makes indie pop and I love it! So creative! Not like the normal pop artists or songs...
For example Imagine Dragons do indie pop too.

Here let me set the metronome to 4 4 beat and hit the bass drum 50 times.

Now let's add an annoying lyric like whatever is a stupid saying in todays world. One that annoys me a lot. "How to adult." Cause adult is totally an adjective lol.

Dont believe me? I could name every 50 cent song that I hated that fit this annoying description lol.

I actually said near enough the same thing in another post, glad to know there are still some reasonable people left.

The meaning of music is not to write a song with as many notes as possible or with many techniques or hard rythms. Music is about what you feel. It doesn't matter if it's simple or not. The artists want you to feel happy or sad or whatever. Sure it's hard to write songs where everyone feels the same. And it's hard to write a song that let feels you the feeling the artist wants to. And that's why everyone have another taste in music.
And THIS is the reason why I love A7x. They got a song for every situation.
Sometimes I want to listen to a fast song -> City of Evil
Sometimes I want to listen to a badass song -> Hail to the King (album)
Sometimes I want a sad and slow song -> Roman Sky

In every situation you want to hear other songs.
And yeah, I don't like pop so much too. But there are people who don't know much about music (like 5/4 or 7/8 rythm) and they can't enjoy what we enjoy because they don't understand that.
They don't know how big and great music can be...

That's why I can handle eminem. His vocals seem to have great rhymes and his samples are not always the same. And his vocal harmonies. I cant say the same for a lot of other pop stars. And yes he is a pop star. He always was.

Keshas early music was exactly that. Her producer auto toned her voice too. Which was fucking stupid cause she can sing. Huge range. Her last album was more soft rock then pop and she even changes her tunes to fit her band live when I saw her. I was very impressed. Her new album sounds more pop influenced but she still has mixed in the music part. Just pop breakdowns. That I can understand fully. And it takes balls to do that.

Lorde did the same with her latest album. No beats all Instruments and her vocal harmonies.

You're correct I agree. Music is all about expressing emotion. That's why pop explodes. Perfect dance drink music. It makes you feel good. But.. peoples taste has gotten so plain that like I said earlier. It takes someone with balls to sound different and for the next year everyone copies them.

    Yeah that's right!
You know what? Funny thing I gotta tell you. I watched 'Friends' for the first time at the beginning of this year and Phoebe (I don't know if you know friends) sings in the first episode the EXACT SAME melody like Ariana Grande in 7 Rings...

    Listen to that...

    (Friends)
    (Ariana Grande) Listen at 0:14

    The fucking exact same melody...
So yeah... You're right! Everything will be recycled.

I found a saves the day song (emo punk) that uses the same melody as alan Jackson song. Just one is played as octaves and the other is as note picking. Both are used as chorus closers too. It's funny how music comes full circle.

But then again when you only have what.. 4 sets of octaves on a guitar. Songs are gonna overlap eventually.

Phew... Didn't wanna spark this discussion.

@Edward John I think you made your Point very clear towards Ids, let it rest.

@Cedric L Love your Points about the meaning of music.
I think it's Just the state of mind of most people nowadays that they don't want complex and deep music. After all Most people do Listen to the radio on their way to Work, probably early in the morning. A light hearted 3min Song is probably Something you'd rather hear than wondering about what that Guy in this 13 Minute Long Tool track is trying to Tell you.

Back to my actual topic. I do Like some Imagine Dragons as Well. Oh and
    NICKELBACK.
Talking about knowing how to write a pop Song while still have some Solid Rock Songs on every Album.

I don't even think it makes sense to think and talk about "pop music" as if it wasn't a hundred different things. The Beatles, modern American dance music, Nickelback, mumble rap, and independent hits such as "Somebody That I Used to Know" or "Gangnam Style" are all worlds apart.

Max Martin is pretty much superhuman. I like to pretend that Metal is the best music, but honestly too much modern metal shows all of the flaws of modern "pop music" (yes I just contradicted myself by saying that) without showing any greater creativity.
