Putting a strategic comment here because I have the same issue. The only solution that comes to mind is to practice your left hand ONLY very slowly and making sure all the notes are clean. Interested to see what other people may say!

Im not into legato myself, but what i hear is string noise. My teachers always says I have to mute strings i dont use. So with my right hand (where the pick is) when i go down a string my palming part of my hand slowly touches the string above it. Like you play: Low E and then A, when i play A the muting part of my hand lays on low E, and when u go down, the muting hand follows. With my fretting hand I am supposed to also mute strings i dont use (but thats more in riff playing). Dont know if its helpfull (and understandable.. lol).

Thanks man! I will definetly try out to mute strings with my fretting hand. Usually I just mute with the picking hand. I will combine both!

As Ids pointed out it's really about muting, you are doing the job of your fretwrap with your picking hand. Kind of the same idea as having the picking hand above your fretting hand, you just have to watch out for which strings to mute and which not to mute

This threat may have helped me with this issue too, so thanks for posting this. I thought my problem with legato was just speed and general sloppiness. I’ll pay attention to this too next time.
