Recently went on a pick diet. Went from 2.0 mm to .73 mm this past few months and my oh my. Or should it be vice versa?

I use 1.5 mm Graphtech picks at the moment. It's definitely personal preference tho.

It's down to whatever works for you at the time, currently my pick size is yellow.

I bought a mixed pack of Dunlop Jazz picks and am using the clear yellow Ultex one, no idea of size.

I used 2mm stubbies for decades, then started looking at alternatives. I landed happy on 1mm Flow picks.

No such thing as "should be" for stuff like this buddy

All our own hands are very different from one another, so it mostly depends on your comfort.

You can compare & question about material, but the pick size, thickness & comfort is usually subjected to comfort, playing style, etc.

So just keep finding one that you're comfy with

Yeah, mine were the Jazz III Stubbies, the little purple ones. Started using them about 1989 or so and only started looking at alternatives in maybe 2012 or so. I tried Jazz III sized thick picks of different varieties, as bigger picks all felt foreign to me. Once I tried the JP Ultex picks, which are not full size, but larger than J3s, I opened up my mind to the larger (pun intended) possibilities.

The flow picks are really nice, but maybe less so if your too much of a side/edge picker. I wound up adapting around them a fair bit but I liked what they brought feel and tone-wise.

I like Dunlop Jazz IIIs, the standard red and black ones. 1.38mm and small and stiff, that's all the features I need in a pick. Never tried the fancy variations of Jazz III's.

I was using a .73 before the site, after I switched to 2.0. I got better/faster and now I prefer the .73 again. I still use both for different reasons. I like the .73 more, there's some slight texture on the side and a little flimsy. The 2.0 is just smooth and doesn't bend.
I switched to the 2.0 after hearing it from PG in one of the early lessons, also adjust the way I was holding the pick. Helped a lot!
