Merry Christmas everyone,
I was doing my daily playing and ran into a wall. I chose a backing track of youtube...which was in D Dorian ( c major) and the scales to use suggested were D dorian and D minor....now D minor overlaps the 5 and 6th postion of the major scale. While D dorian is the second position....so am I just going crazy? I though the major postions overlap the CAGED system...but modes only use the major scale patterns but dont overlap?

Im not entirely sure what you're asking but the difference between D Dorian and D minor is the 6th note. In D dorian this is a sixth(B) and in D minor(aeolian) it is a flat sixth(Bb). D Dorian is the second mode of C major and D aeolian is the sixth mode of F major.
