Yup, you don't need to be able to rip through them as fast as Syn to get great value from them.

To be fair, I have also heard that a lot, guys don't like posting because they don't want to disappoint Syn. Which is just not right.

It's true and that's really sad because if there's one thing that he likes seeing the most its growth. It really makes his life and it makes his day. That was the reason why he invented this school. He didn't invent this school so that professionals could just show off how professional they were. That's what YouTube is for

I think its different with a guy like Syn, because many fans of A7X think of him as their hero, a guitar god. They don't think of him as the Syn we know, the great guy, I think they just have this idea of him as a virtuoso, which he is, but he isn't snobbish about it at all. Many who don't really know the site would probably think it was a school of shredders with Syn giving lessons. Which it isn't.

I bet if Syn shared some very beginner videos and talked about it on social media (again) that might help and inspire others.

Unfortunately it shouldn't be up to him to showcase all of that. When he shares people shredding and being very proficiant, he's probably trying to showcase how much awesomeness you can obtain if you go to this school which it's very true. Unfortunately some people don't view it like that.

    LOVE this thread!
All great points. Hard to fight human nature - which is why Facebook, Twitter, et. al. are doing so well. It's much more fun to argue Nickelback than to argue Altered Scale vs Diminished over the V chord. lol.
And I totally get why beginners are hesitant to post. It's been drummed into their heads (on Youtube, etc.) that EVERYBODY sucks. We just have to keep encouraging them. Guitarists are notoriously filled with self-doubt. I'm a very good guitarist and I'm not even the best player in my family! lol
My advice is - be patient with people and lead by example.
As with anything. IT STARTS WITH YOU. Be the change you want to see.
As for me - I will personally encourage beginners to get more involved and I will step-up my interaction with them.
    Cheers!

Thank you papa for your wonderful response! You are an angel! I hope people understand that this wasn't necessarily catered to beginners but it went that way which is totally needed! The point of this whole thread is That the riff page needs to be as active as the forum pages. I miss seeing 12 comments on someone's video and 20 likes. That's when the real growth starts happening! As far as the beginners go, it's difficult to interact with some of them because only about four people on this entire school have made it apparent that they are a beginner and need help or that they are a beginner in general. Most of them are still sitting dormant in the shadows and I have tried my best for the last 2 years to pull them out and it's just not happening

I agree 1000%! Do you know how long it took me to get this sweep pattern even learned? 2 weeks! There are parts of the etudes that anybody can learn even if they just put the guitar in their hand for the very 1st time in their life. I have offered showcasing these measures to people and teaching it to them and they don't want it

Quite honestly.. I think a good goal would be to target one of the around the world etudes. They don't need.to be fast at all.. and you'll learn your patterns really fast. This is one I think I'm definitely gonna add to my opening exercise. I just need to map it out for g minor.

Not the best guitarist in the family? Come on, Papa, that outro solo on Sidewinder though! Just kidding. But I gotta cover that! I think the problem with music is that it's hard to express it in words, the English language isn't really suited for that sort of thing, it's like explaining the a feeling, hope that makes sense. That's why guys like talking about music/bands in general. I couldn't explain what it is I'm doing on the guitar, all I know is what I like and don't. I mean, if you listen to early A7X, Matt's vocals sound very different to what they do now, that was all about what you said, become what you want to become!
