You’ll get as many different recommendations as answers. All I would recommend is staying away from expensive “boutique” strings until you get good enough to know what you want and like, and not break strings all the time. That means avoid the Cobalts, and Elixirs, and NYXLs and all that. Any major $4-6 set of strings will be solid.
For standard tuning or drop-D, you might start with 9-42 or 9-46 gauge, as they are most common. If you tune down, 10-46 or 10-52 might suit you better. Thicker strings mean harder bends and more pain when you’re learning. Some folks swear by it for tone and/or bragging rights, others never see the need. I’ve been playing almost 35 years, and tried lots of different varieties and I always come back to my Ernie Ball 9-46s.
Once you find a set and gauge you like, take the guitar in to a local shop for a basic setup, and then ROCK ON!

Elixir are expensive but they are coated and they last longer and they don’t rust or have as much dirt on them as standard ernie ball strings. Ernie ball also has coated strings and they are way better than normal ones in my opinion but they are also expensive. But when you look at it it comes to the same thing, you give more money and your strings last longer, you give less then you have to change them sooner and buy new ones and it turns out you gave the same amount of money

I’ve always used Ernie Ball, tried Elixirs, tried D’Addario, just didn’t quite click. I put Slinkys on my guitars I use less often and the new Paradigm set on my more heavily used guitar, but that’s mainly because the big one in question has a Floyd so I don’t change it as often, so I’m more comfortable spending more on strings for it. Slinkys are great for just about everything. I use standard .10’s, but I’ve also used bottom-heavy .10 hybrids in the past and they were good as well.

I think I read somewhere that syn uses Ernie ball, skinny bottom heavy top strings. I use them and they are great for playing rythym stuff on the low 3 strings and lead stuff on the 3 high strings.

im wondering what gauge he uses for standard E tunings. Im running 10-52 on my syn custom in standard E tuning.

The problem i have is that with only 2 heavy duty springs i have to adjust the claw screw to near max tightness and with 3 springs it feels like alot of tension when using the whammy bar
