So what I get from this thread is that my life was a lie. /s

But in all seriousness, as someone who has been learning to sing for the past year, it's extremely common for metal singers to have nasal voices. Just try to sing any Guns'N'Roses song or listen to how nasal Axl's voice is, especially when singing high notes. The trick is to transform that nasal voice from Minnie Mouse to M. Shadows and that is not as easy as it may seem.

That being said, hating on Nickelback is so 2005. I have listened to my fair share of Nickelback because they are a very easy band to consume. But comparing these two bands is...I mean it just shows that objectively, those people do not understand music. Nickelback and Avenged Sevenfold are not similar in what they sing...not by a long shot. But hey, I guess people still haven't moved on from the looks the guys had back in 2001.

I mean, as an F1 fan, people still haven't moved on from Sebastian Vettel hitting his teammate back in 2010, so I can't say I am surprised.

My 2c on the matter :).
Yeah, from a musical perspective you are right! The similarities are in how they are perceived in their scene - to some extend, as I explained.
I think it's really funny. We musicians and metal enthusiasts think that we know and value music and so I am shaking my head when my mom tells me "how can you listen to this, it all sounds the same" while on the same time there are people out there that say "Oh yeah, A7x sounds just like Nickelback"

Here's the thing. Nickleback is said to be one of Canada's greatest bands ever. Which is surprising to me because we have some unreal hidden talent. I give them the respect for being them. I have the same relationship with Metallica. I their early work I grew up listening to. Their stuff these days... its meh. They just sound like the band jamming which makes sense.. I usually get 3 or 4 songs in before I stop the album.

I love that Syn is respectfully not commenting, brilliant. Say what you will about the 'Back, but some bands would do anything for riffs as nasty as some of theirs. If you dislike the 'Back, this will change your mind.

Maybe he just didn't see it yet lol.

As for the song, it's not bad, it's just that I'm not the target audience for it. Not changing my mind, sorry haha.

    Try this, friend.
Well, the riffs are okay, but I can't get behind the vocals... It feels a bit too generic for me. Sounds like Three Days Grace, Skillet, Breaking Benjamin and that kind of stuff, which is not my cup of tea.

I used to like that stuff back in elementary, but nowadays it just doesn't do anything for me.

Definitely got a point. Although, I think Nickelback's riffs, like you said, are a bit better than most of those. I'll give it a last go, hahaha.
