The "Secret Is Synyster" Video Has Reached The Public. Thoughts?

Maybe I’m alone in this, but I am quite livid. When Syn sent the email out entitled “The Secret Is Synsyter”, he specifically mentioned it was for his “email kids” and I took it as a nice, private lesson he organized to give us something to work on while the school was down. HIS STUDENTS. NOT THESE SOCIAL CLICK-OBSESSIVE PEOPLE. We have ALL worked REALLY hard by responding to comments on Syn’s page, making the testimonial video, and I have been reaching out to literally dozens of new people who message me DAILY trying to get people to join the school.
I’m now seeing Syn fan pages sharing this video that was (so I thought) SUPPOSE TO BE PRIVATE FOR US STUDENTS ONLY. It’s bothering me that there are people who aren’t active on this school that are getting access to this private content and sharing it on their social media pages just for the sake of “clicks” and “likes”. What bothers me the most, is that Syn has been working tirelessly trying to promote the school for almost like what, 7 months or something like that? And on these fanpages where the private videos are getting shared, people are saying, “Where did you get this? Thanks for this! This is awesome!” Without any nod to the school at all.
It is bothering me to no end is that they’re not giving credit to the school and are actually marketing it improperly.
I felt so lucky that Syn did something special for us students who are working hard to help each other out, become friends, build this community, and actually partake in it only for these “fanpages” to yank the content from us, not even participate in the school, and using it simply to boost their views. I’ve seen it happen numerous times and have confronted people about it.
Am I alone in this? The page-admins on the accounts that shared the video are saying, “Oh I doubt Syn will be mad if we shared this private video.” So my question is, do you think it makes him mad? Does it make you mad? Am I overthinking all of this?

Hey Jak, I agree with your thoughts on that Topic. I can’t speak for Syn, but I could see that coming. The Internet is unfortunately full of these People. But although I don’t like their behaviour and although they are kinda taking away Attention from the School I think it should not bother us too much. Syn will go on promoting the School and who is really eager to learn will find us.
Also this School is so much more than a leaked Video on YouTube. The lessons helped me getting startet, but this wonderful comunity is what really kept me excited, helped me learning and got me involved here. So what I say is don’t take it too seriously if you can’t Change it.
    Love this School!

I think it was bound to happen. It’s the internet afterall. I think it’s a shame people are taking the videos and posting them just for likes or whatever. A simple link in the bio and this whole thing could be turned into a positive and direct people to the school. I wouldn’t dwell on it too much I think syn will notice and apretiate the regular people on here and apritiate there hard work.
Just keep on doing what your doing =)

To be honest Jak, it’s the story of almost every forum. We all know there are members in this forum who are online but not active. Sadly, they don’t contribute to the forum but enjoy the benefits. But that’s the case with all forums. We can not stop this entirely without being strict like Reddit. And being strict with this forum will defeat the purpose of this forum and this school. So it’s better to take it this way. The video that got spread, it will make some (though a few) people join this school because some people will be curious about the source of the video. The overall outcome is unfortunate, but it’s better to leave it as it is.

Personally, I am indeed mad at that. I haven’t checked out any of those fanpages who posted it yet, but completely agree. There’s nothing I can add to it, you already said it all. It’s kind of disrespectful to simply share the video without his permission (since it’s private).

I agree it is kinda shitty but unfortunately we are living in the Internet age where ever single video someone famous puts online immediately gets ripped and copied by a bunch of people who want to get views and clicks because views and clicks tend to equal money. And tbh I don’t think there’s that much you can do about it really. You can also find every single video he puts on Facebook or instagram on youtube. It sucks that they don’t even mention the school when they upload it though. What I’m also wondering is who are these people in the school because they have to be in the school to actually get that video in the first place.

I’d Like to say that being online without contributing Something should not be the Problem. Sharing stuff isnt nice, but Just watching?
I know myself there are people Out there Feeling uncomfortable Posting stuff in a Forum. And there might be some beginners who Just have No knowledge to Share, which was my Problem at First as Well.

True Dominik. There is no harm in not contributing to this forum. Also, There are thousands of members on this site. If everyone becomes equally active, then this forum will be a mess (Think about 1000 topics, comments a day). Watching the lessons, reading the posts…getting the most out the forum and school is the priority for many and it’s completely OK. I think sharing stuff is also OK in certain cases ( not always, that’s a bad practice)…for example, to bring in more members to this school. But giving no credits is not accepted. It’s true in any field I guess.

Yes @annelene this is kind of where I was trying to come from. I thank everyone for their thoughts and I agree with all of them. But I do think what I was trying to say is I’m upset that they shared something without his permission… bottom line. I know it’s bound to happen but it shouldn’t. Not unless he wants it to.

@calvin, might want to check your spam folder.
Honestly, I think it’s just the inevitability of the internet. Take it that we got it FIRST, because once something is out there, whether it’s a special message or a “sex tape,” it is OUT THERE forever. Not worth getting angry over the inevitable. That’s part of the conversation I have had with all of my kids when they started using technology – phones, internet, etc.
Perhaps the next evolution of the site is a “members only” video section or something, but I doubt it, and I’m sure shit would still get out the, it just might take an extra day or two.
Breathe, remember that we got an email and saw it first, and move along.

It is disrespectful and it shouldn’t happen but let’s accept that any material on the internet is vulnerable and far too difficult to keep “secret”. Plus when it comes from somebody so admired and followed like Syn. It is normal to be upset about it but unfortunately this is the world we live in.

I was right. As I’m trying to tell the account owner to at least label the video properly, there are people saying things like “I never go onto his site anyway. I just like seeing it on Instagram.” I’m trying to reason with the account owner to at least correctly label the video so it’s not misleading people. And all I’m getting is a whirlwind attack of how it’s not a big deal to post it without his permission. Oh well…I guess life moves on. I was also told I was being mean, rude, not a real fan. So sad that Syn and his dad worked so hard for people to be so disrespectful. Hope you all enjoy the rest of your week.

I agree. Especially that they don’t even mention the school!
Somehow I accidentally hit some bottom to get no e mails at all from the school 🙁 I think I was a thing when I signed up before the school was even launched and I hit the unsubscribe button at the bottom. I signed up again after it launched but got almost no e mail 🙁

Aah well, Internet people I guess😅 A bunch of them really aren’t nice at all but are the same time wouldn’t even dare to say anything to your face so try to not be to bothered about it. If Syn or PG wants them to take it down it will probably happen.

I think I know who you are talking about. I saw the video too on Instagram and I felt pretty mad too. It was suppose to be a private, unlisted lesson for us. Some people on the internet are very inconsiderate. I can see why the account owner would say that it is not an issue because social media is an informal platform versus writing up a lab report or a book that would require proper citation for publication. But other than that, I still agree with you that all reposted items should get credit. I would be so bothered that my hard work and dedication gets stolen. I use to own three RPG forums with over 100 active members everyday, promoting your own stuff is hard to reach the right audience.
I tried to argue with a few of the fan accounts too on a different subject. Some are just plain inconsiderate, would not talk back, or literally following me in real life. (long story, don’t ask)
