Thoughts on Nu Metal?

Nu metal was a weird time in music, it seemed like a natural progression though, to combine other forms of music with metal, there wasn't really anywhere else for the genre to go, in terms of new sound that is. It very much seemed like a combination of metal with hip-hop inspired grooves and even some grunge as well. Any thoughts on this kind of music and weather you think it will be remembered in a respectful manner in the future?

Honestly, I can't remember any songs from that era and in my criteria of a good song that means There weren't any good songs. So I think it's like a tiny blimp in music history, if it's your taste it's great then you should listen to it but if not you probably won't lose out that much.

I never really said it was my thing, I was just saying that it seemed like a logical progression for metal music. What is your criteria for a good song?

If you count Hybrid Theory and Meteora to nu metal then YES there is stuff I love. Some Limp Bizkit songs are okay and I would say some Slipknot songs have nu metal influences. But other than that I don't know much Nu Metal stuff. It's a genre that I feel just isn't "in" right now - which is interesting as rap is booming. Doesn't mean it won't be in in the future again :)

My old roommate played covers where he really sounds like a real singer. I understand it's what made them big but as my voice gets better its all I do is sing. The screams are less and less.
Disturbed don't really, on a technical side, have screams, to me it seems more like growl type stuff, I think he has a lot of natural distortion, but singing those songs is quite a feat.
