Two New Chords – E & Am – Lesson 13

I’d never heard of only playing the little strings on the up strum. I can guess why you’d do that, but what is the musical reasoning behind the technique?

A lot of reggae guitar is like this - no real downstroke and an upstroke that predominantly hits the treble strings only.

Some of the Bee Gee's chicka-chicka wah wah stuff, or the theme from Shaft. Lots of disco.

As soon as I move my three fingers down one string it just sounds dead,what am I doing wrong?

I kinda find it rather hard to slide my fingers down from E to Am. Any one has the same issue?

I do, but I guess it takes time, does there have to be a exact form to play chords, I have said before I am always self conscious about my posture and how my wrist are supposed to be, for some reason I cannot keep them straight without my fingers hitting other strings, any suggestions

@Little Laguna05 I think you may got to curve the fingers at the tips some as to try and not muffle the other strings, if that's an issue
