Yeah, KK is a different sort of player, he loves that whole whammy, dive-bomb thing. I do quite enjoy his solo on Victim of Changes though.

I put KK in the same category as Janick from Maiden - great rhythm player, great songwriter for the band, not an enjoyable lead player. I'll have to cue up Victim to listen again. Maybe after this conference call.

I'm so incredibly happy to see some mutual love for the boys of priest! I personally like K k's lead playing but that's just because it sounds so the shrapnel and blistering even if it's sloppy lol! He just has a mad pick attack

GUITARIST I HATE: Yngwie Malmsteen. He's a great technically skilled guitarist but a lot of the songs sound incredibly repetitive to me besides him just being a big asshole to a lot of people over the years.

GUITARIST I HATE: Again can't think of any player I hate in particular, but anyone who's an asshole and thinks they're "all that".
GUITARIST I THINK IS OVERRATED: Kurt Cobain. Make no mistake, I love him and respect him greatly as a songwriter, but he is included in several "greatest guitar players of all time" lists when the guy himself joked about the fact that he couldn't play guitar.
GUITARIST I THINK IS UNDERAPPRECIATED: Papa Gates

GUILTY PLEASURE GUITARIST: Kyle Gas (Tenacious D)
GUITARIST I SHOULD HAVE SEEN BY NOW: Justin Hawkins (The Darkness)

Lol! A lot of people could fit that description :ROFLMAO: , seems like Yngwie is unpopular on this thread. I actually have no idea what he's like, I've never really gotten into his music.
I think he has like 3 ok/great songs but most of the other ones sound like a 15 year old who just learned the harmonic minor scale and realize he/she/it can play fast 'hey mom look at me'*plays the harmonic minor scale up and down really fast*

Yngwie revolutionized a genre and created what was a hugely popular sub-genre in the process (neoclassical). There are NO two ways about it. He was about as influential to a generation of guitar players as Vai, Van Halen, Syn, or anyone else you could name.

However, our friend the Swedish Meatball DEFINITELY has an unchecked ego and severe attitude problems. I do remember seeing him once at a mid-size club as part of a bill with other artists. Early to mid 90s, maybe? I don't remember who he was opening for. Might have been Dream Theater? I really can't remember, but it was APPROPRIATE that he was on the bill, so similar enough music.

Anyway, about the middle of his set, the stage goes dark and an acoustic on a stand is brought out. He starts playing. People started cheering. He STOPPED playing and yelled at the audience to SHUT UP AND PAY ATTENTION TO HIM, and he would not start playing again until the crowd was sufficiently quiet.

That really should be all that needs to be said about him.

Exactly! He's incredibly talented and definitely had a key part in revolutionizing guitar back in the day while helping lead the pack in the creation and early days of Neoclassical music. But goddamn can he be an ass. Especially when he starts going into a fit.
